Ranch Round Up 1-26-24
Highland Ranch Elementary School
A Message From Ms. Barry
Returning for the 2024-2025 School Year?
Continuing Student Family Survey
It is hard to believe it but our district has already begun planning for the 2024-2025 school year! In an effort to help us provide the most accurate information about the number of students who will be returning next year, please complete THIS SURVEY no later than January 28, 2024. This will provide us with the number of returning students as well as those who will be leaving Highland Ranch, and will ensure that your child(ren) is enrolled correctly in the 2024-2025 school year. Please submit one form per student.
Families do not need to complete the form for current 5th-grade students because they will be automatically enrolled in 6th-grade at their school of residence. This is NOT continuing student registration. Continuing student registration will take place March 1st-31st and is for ALL students enrolled in PUSD for the 2024-2025 school year. Visit PUSD Continuing Student Registration for more information.
Transfer Requests - beginning on February 1st at 8:00 am, we will accept transfer requests for students who live in the Poway Unified boundaries and would like to attend a different Poway school. This includes incoming siblings of current students, as well as students who have not yet enrolled. Transfer requests can be made on the Poway Unified website by clicking THIS link. The transfer window closes on March 31st at 5 pm.
Continuing Student Registration - from March 1st - March 31st, all parents whose current students will continue in Poway Unified for the ‘24-’25 school year need to complete online continuing registration. Look for more information coming soon.
New Student Enrollment - beginning on April 1st at 8:00 am, new student enrollment opens on the Poway Unified website. We are excited to welcome our new students!
More details can be found on the Poway Unified website at www.powayusd.com.
Thank You
Ms. Barry
New Information
Important Reminder: Minimizing Classroom Disruptions Due to Forgotten Items
Recently, we have noticed a significant rise in the number of items being left behind and brought to the main office. As our staff capacity does not extend to delivering these items to classrooms, we often need to contact teachers during instructional time to arrange for students to collect their belongings. This practice has become disruptive for many of our educators.
To minimize interruptions and maintain an optimal learning environment, we kindly request your assistance in ensuring that your child comes to school fully prepared with all necessary items, such as backpacks, water bottles, lunch, homework, etc. While we understand that occasionally things may be forgotten, the volume of forgotten items currently being handled by our office is substantial.
We appreciate your cooperation in this matter, as it helps us provide a more focused and uninterrupted educational experience for all students. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Cold and Flu Season
As we enter the cold and flu season, we want to ensure that you are well-informed about our health and medication procedures. Kindly take a moment to review the guidelines in the link above thoroughly, so you are prepared to handle situations where your child may need to stay home due to illness. Your understanding and cooperation are greatly appreciated.
Attendance Matters
Our school's primary objective is to enhance our daily attendance rates. Following the Winter Break, our school administrators will engage in discussions with families facing chronic absenteeism. We kindly emphasize the importance of scheduling vacations within the 180 days when school is not in session.
Research indicates a significant influence on students' academic and social well-being when they consistently miss school. In 2024, we will introduce incentives for students and classes that consistently exhibit good attendance.
Need Additional Illustrative Math Resources
We invite you to explore the provided link above for access to Illustrative Math resources that can enhance your students' learning experience during the Thanksgiving or Winter break. This resource-packed site is designed to complement Illustrative Math, offering valuable support for your students' mathematical journey. Your students will find a wealth of materials to reinforce their math skills and enrich their understanding. Happy learning!
Food and Nutrition Updates
School breakfast and school lunch are FREE for all enrolled students, every school day. Meals must still be entered into the cafeteria computer by individual student account.
Even though meals are free, families are still highly encouraged to complete the application for free and reduced-price meal eligibility. School site funding depends in part on the number of students eligible for free/reduced-price meals. Families that qualify for free/reduced-price meals may qualify for other benefits, as well. The meal application is available online at MySchoolApps.com.
Printer-friendly PDF menus are available on the PUSD Food and Nutrition webpage. At the top of the page, click or hover over School Menus + and then Printable PDF Menus.
Interactive, web-based menus containing nutrient and allergen details are available at MySchoolMenus.com, as well as via links from the F&N webpage.
