Onsite College Admissions November 16-20
The week of Nov 16-20 is Virginia College Application Week. In addition to assisting students with college applications and waiving application fees, Handley is also offering Onsite Admissions with 6 Universities. Onsite Admissions is an opportunity to apply directly to the college and submit a transcript. The admissions counselor for that college will review your information and give you an immediate admission that is non-binding. This can give you much needed peace of mind knowing that you have a college acceptance.
Virtual College Visits for November 18
Please plan to attend the Virtual College Visits on Wednesday, November 18th for: Potomac State/WVU 9:00 and Bridgewater College 2:00. This is your opportunity to meet with an admissions counselor and ask about academics, campus life, and the admissions process. Happy Diwali (Hindi Five-Day Festival)
A message from Carl Rush, WPS Equity and Community Engagement Coordinator:
As we weather through very unique and trying times, we are all looking for opportunities to find light and to be a source of light in the lives of others. For our Hindi students and families, this time of year also signals the celebration of Diwali. Diwali, the festival of lights and one of the most well-known South Asian religious festivals. Diwali literally means “row of lamps.” The festival gets its name from the row of clay lamps called deepas, that people light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects people from spiritual darkness.
Diwali is a five-day festival celebrated across India and by Indian diaspora across the globe. This year celebrations begin on Thursday, November 12, 2020 and Diwali will be celebrated on Saturday, November 14, 2020.
To our Hindi students and families, Shush Deepavali.

Biliteracy Seal
Are you interested in earning the Virginia State Seal of Biliteracy? JHHS is offering students the chance to take the AVANT 4S test in Spanish, French, German, and other languages.
What is it? The Seal of Biliteracy is a special stamp/seal that gets added to your diploma and listed on your transcripts.
How does it help me? This seal shows colleges, the military, or jobs that you can communicate in two different languages. This is a valuable skill!
What is the test like? The test is 4 different parts: reading, writing, speaking and listening. It takes 2-3 hours to complete the whole test. You will need to speak into a microphone for the speaking part. You can see samples from the AVANT 4S test and try it out HERE.
How does it work? You will get four scores (one for each part). In order to earn the Seal of Biliteracy, you must score a 5 or higher (out of 9) in each section.
Who? Any student at Handley can take the test. If you have already taken an AP test in this language and earned a 3 or higher- you already have the Biliteracy Seal!
What you need to do! Fill out THIS FORM to get on the list. Must be completed by Wednesday, November 18.
