Please join the LSW Counselors in the Library Media Center as we welcome Kirsti Millar from ReDiscover's 'Show Me ZERO Youth Suicide - Suicide Prevention Program'. We will be discussing Youth Suicide Prevention and how we can all be there for our students and the best ways to discuss and help those in need.
Suicide Prevention Week Activities
Events for the week are:
Motivational Monday: Look for the Counselors during your lunch shift in the Commons and write your affirmation on a heart.
Terrific Tuesday: Yoga in the Courtyard! Bring your Yoga mat and come to the Courtyard during Titan Time. We will have a Yoga master lead you through some calming moves to get your balance back in life!
* During Lunch you will have the chance to sign a pledge to 'Lend a hand by standing up to bullying'
Wonderful Wednesday: Kindness Matters! Random Acts of Kindness around LSW! Look for Counselors in the Commons during ALL lunch shifts!

Thankful Thursday: Rolling with the Expert - Come to the Library Media Center during Titan Time to meet with Kirsti Millar from ReDiscover to learn how to help yourself or a friend/family member
* Being Thankful! Write a Thank You message to a Staff Member or Family Member. Note cards available during all lunch shifts. Counselors will deliver the notes if it is for a LSW staff member. (During all lunch shifts)
Friendly Friday: What I wish my teachers knew. Students will have the opportunity to post things they wish that their teachers knew they were dealing with inside and/or outside of school that could be impacting their academics and/or behaviors. (During all lunch shifts)
College Representative Visits
College Reps have been contacting LSW and filling up our calendar! Please keep an eye out for emails and updates on Naviance Student to know when College Reps will be visiting. We request that you come to the Counseling Center to sign up to visit with them no later than the day BEFORE they are visiting. Come down to Mrs. King's desk in the Counseling Center to sign up!

MSEP - Midwest Student Exchange Program
The Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP) is a tuition reduction program that makes attending out-of-state colleges and universities more affordable for non-resident students. By enrolling in MSEP at a participating institution, you will receive a reduced tuition rate—giving you a wider range of education options for your education dollars. Over one hundred colleges and universities in Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, and Wisconsin have opened their doors to each others’ citizens by offering REDUCED TUITION RATES

Khan Academy: Free, online tutoring for all levels math, science, and history.
Tutoring Available at Mid-Continent Public Library
Tutor.com: For those who may benefit from additional online tutoring, the Library offers free, real-time tutoring services in more than 25 academic subjects, including math, science, social studies, English, and foreign languages, through Tutor.com. In addition to live help, Tutor.com also provides complimentary standardized test preparation services. Watch this brief video to learn more.

ACT Dates and Prep Courses
- ACT Test Dates and Registration: actstudent.org
- NEW! ACT now offering a 7th test date in July.
- Family Connections- Students can log onto their Naviance Student (Formerly -Family Connections) Account and access a wealth of free ACT Practice/Prep called "Naviance Test Prep".
- Junior and Senior students can take a course called "ACT Prep" as one of their elective classes at LSW. This class is a semester long class and offers content, test strategy, and test practice.
- After school ACT Prep Classes Offered in November, January, and March. The cost is $40. Flyers available in the Counseling Center. Register with Ms. King ext. 4003
LSR7 Educational Therapist
LSWHS Educational Therapist: Kristin Scharlau, ext.4032
The Educational Therapist's role is to link students and families with resources and provide support. They also provide educational individual and group therapy to students within the school setting. If you would like to receive more information about how our Education Therapist may be able to help you or your family, please feel free to complete our School Social Work Services Form or print off a downloadable form and turn it into your student’s counselor. Once it is received, our Educational Therapist will contact you.
Transcript Release
Sending Transcripts: Students must have a completed transcript release form on file with Ms. King before a transcript can be sent to a college, college coach, or otherwise. Hard copies of the release form are available in the Counseling Center or they can be accessed at- transcript release.
