TEA House Bill 2610 and Implications for NTH@C Second Semester
House Bill 2610 passed in the last legislative session, and gives directive to the Texas Education Agency for secondary campuses to operate on 75,600 minutes per year instead of 180 school days. New Tech High @ Coppell learners currently have sixty minute and eighty minute class times. Longer instructional times are possible because the campus does not have passing periods. Without additional minutes in the day from passing periods, the campus needs to add an additional 30 minutes to second semester school days. This additional time will be added during mods 10, 11, and 12. The campus is currently finalizing morning and afternoon bus schedules, shuttle schedules, and running learner schedules to avoid conflicts with CHS courses as we implement the new bell schedule for second semester.
Next week, the start and end times for the second semester school day will be finalized and published for learners, facilitators, and parents. While this change in the length of the school day is minimal, we want to ensure learners, facilitators, and parents have time to prepare for the change. This change will be implemented on January 19, 2016. Changes for the 2016-2017 school year bell schedule will published in August of 2016.
