Cheetah Chatter Parent Update
Chapel District Elementary School September 17th-24th
Upcoming Spirit Week, Fall MCAP Testing Grades 4 & 5
Hello, Chapel Families!
We will have our first spirit week September 20th-24th for our 'Start With Hello' campaign sponsored by the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation. This campaign helps bring awareness to the importance of building socially inclusive learning environments for all students. Below outlines each day:
Monday 9/20- "Show your Chapel Cheetah Pride" (wear black and gold)
Tuesday 9/21- "Crazy For Kindness" (crazy socks, hair, or mismatched clothes)
Wednesday 9/22- "Wear Your Favorite Shirt" (wear your favorite shirt with favorite team, cartoon, game, or band to see who else likes it, too)
Thursday 9/23-"Peace Love and Kindness" (wear your favorite tie dye gear)
Friday 9/24- "Forget Me Not Friday" (wear green to show support for including others so they are not alone)
Grades 4 & 5 will also be participating in Fall MCAP testing in ELA and Math. Please see the testing schedule further down in the newsletter. Please reach out to Mrs. Palmer if you have any questions (apalmer@talbotschools.org).
Chapel District Elementary School was featured at the September 15th TCPS BOE meeting regarding creative use of student interventions and our newly formed W.I.N. ("What I Need") block in grades 3-5. A special thank you to Mrs. Amy Palmer and Mrs. Becky Crawford for assisting in our presentation to the board of education! (PowerPoint presentation further down in newsletter).
This past week MSDE has advised local schools regarding masks during P.E. class. When students are actively engaged in an exercise activity students will NOT be required to wear a mask. Starting Monday, students will no longer have to wear masks during P.E. while engaged in exercise activity. Students will continue to be 3 ft distanced when possible.
Please be reminded that your child should bring a water bottle to school every day, as well as a mask with several extra clean masks in their book bags. Sometimes students like to change their masks out throughout the day. Also, please be reminded that mesh masks are not allowed.
Please be sure to keep your child home if they are not feeling well and let the school nurse and your child's teacher know (Nurse- christa.johns@talbotschools.org). TCPS follows strict guidance from the Talbot County Health Department on quarantine procedures when a student is sick or exhibits Covid-19 symptoms. In addition, please make sure you send a parent or doctor's note if your child is absent for any reason.
Thank you for your support at our Panera Bread Spirit Night Monday evening! Please read further down in our newsletter for exciting PTO events and fundraiser announcements. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Kari M. Clow
