Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl Album

Inspired by a novel by Jesse Andrews

Album Review

The following songs are for the novel Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews. The songs describe the feelings and scenes going on throughout the book. The songs are from a big variety.

Track 1: In Between by Beartooth

I think this song really describes Earl's character. He comes from a broken home and has had a tough life. When he is at Greg's house I think Earl feels a lot safer and it feels like he can breathe better. He would probably run away to Greg's house if he could. Greg and Earl's friendship is a very good thing for him. I think is the type of song he would listen to also. It is a little bit screamo but they still sing.

Track 2: I'll Be There For You by The Rembrandts

This song goes along with the ice cream scene between Greg, Earl, and Rachel. In this scene Rachel tells the boys that she has to go into get her first round of chemo the next day and will soon lose her hair. Earl then suggests they go out for ice cream to get her mind off of it. They have a great time and later they go back to Greg's house to watch some of Greg and Earl's movies. This is a huge deal because Greg and Earl never show any of their movies to anybody else. This song is good for this scene because they all become even closer friends. Also it's from the TV show friends and it's amazing.

Track 3: Talking to the Moon by Bruno Mars

I think this song would play when Rachel dies from her cancer and Greg becomes very depressed. I think Greg actually loved Rachel and when she died it hit him really hard. Then when he went to college it stayed with him. He started to fail his classes and become very sad about Rachel. He really missed her and this song explains how he was feeling.

Track 4: Living in the Moment by Jason Mraz

This song would play at the end. Greg finally gets rid or his depression after he realizes Rachel's death made a huge impact on his life and makes him want to live life to its fullest. When he writes this book to the board of his college to explain why he is failing and not going to classes he realizes he doesn't want to be there anymore. He wants to apply to film school like Rachel told him to do in the first place. He is much happier now.
