Mr. Berkey and Mrs. Maynard will facilitate the Field Days through the Google Meet. We are communicating this information two weeks early hoping that everyone can locate the materials that will be needed, and if you want you can practice the events. Families are encouraged to practice and participate!
We realize boys and girls will not be able to see their classmates competing, so we are encouraging parents to take a few pictures along the way and share them with Mr. Berkey and Ms. Maynard so that they can go into a grade level book to be shared with everyone.
Information on how to submit pictures will be sent out in the near future. We hope everyone can come “together” for this fun event.

From The Stoneleigh Visual Arts Department
Attention all Stoneleigh Elementary Artists!
We are excited to share with you that the SHOW WILL GO ON… VIRTUALLY! We want your art!
In your class art Schoology course, you will find a bright green folder titled “SES VIRTUAL ART SHOW: WE WANT YOUR ART!” under the welcome page.
Inside this folder is a media album. Students should upload a photo of a finished artwork (of their choice) that they would like to share for our Stoneleigh Virtual Art Show!
It can be a piece of art created during the school year that is now home. OR it can be a piece of art created from the remote learning art lessons. OR it can be ANY artwork made by the student.
In the caption of your uploaded photo, please include your first name and last initial as well as a title and description of materials used to make your artwork. A teacher example will be placed first in the media album for you to see. Deadline for submissions of student artwork to this media album is Sunday May 31st at 11:59pm.
During our special area google meets the week of June 8th-12th, we will share the finished slideshow of student artwork for our SES Virtual Art Show. We are excited for this great way to present and celebrate our art achievements from this school year.
We look forward to seeing what you’ve created!
Needed From 5th Grade Parents
5th Grade Farewell Slideshow Pictures Needed
Ms. Baker has started creating the 5th grade student slideshow for the farewell on Tuesday, June 16th at 7pm.
So far, she has received photos from:
- almost half of the students in Mr. Imirie, Mr. Miller, and Mr. Tollerton's homerooms,
- 5 students in Ms. Bradley's homeroom,
- a few students in Ms. Sturkey's homeroom.
In order to complete the task Ms. Baker is asking parents to upload no more than 10 photos to the Dropbox account below. Each photo must include your child, and must be taken at a school event, preferably a 5th grade school event. However, feel free to use photos from prior years as well. Rename the photos when uploading with your child’s first and last name. This will ensure that each child is represented in the slideshow, equally.
Please contact Bakermakers@me.com with any questions.
The Dropbox account is https://www.dropbox.com/request/9Gc1Mrqqj2JQGqg3gpUM?oref=e

Social Skills During Distance Learning
Social skills include skills that many children pick up on by watching others around them. These skills can include the following: using appropriate personal space eye contact and nonverbal communication; as well as giving and receiving compliments, taking turns, identifying feelings, being flexible to change and participating in conversations.
These skills can be very challenging for many students. Many times, social skills are worked on in group settings where the skill can be
explicitly taught and then practiced with other students. During this unique situation we are in, there are many creative ways parents can continue working on social skills with their children at home. If there are siblings at home, then students have built in peers to be able to practice these skills. However, if there are not other children in the home to practice with, there are activities and games listed below to help practice these skills in a fun way. These activities will help your child practice these skills in fun ways that won’t necessarily feel like work.
See the attachment below titled Parent Information Sheet Social Skills for more information.
When Problem Behaviors Occur
“There are no bad kids, just young people wrestling with emotions and impulses, trying to express their feelings and needs the only way they know how.” -Janet Lansbury
During times of unpredictability and high stress, emotions and tensions run high, especially for our children who don’t understand everything happening around them. Despite our best efforts to create the most positive environment possible, problem behaviors will still inevitably occur. When problem behaviors do occur, the most important thing is to keep you and your child safe. Remain calm and collected so as not to add to the frustration. Use positive, clear and concise language to let your child know what the expectation is.
See the attachment below titled Parent Information Sheet Responding to Problem Behavior for more information.
