The Buzz at Westbrook School
September 16, 2022
From the Principal...
Dear Westbrook Families,
Thank you to our Circle of Friends families who joined us for popsicles in the park last week. It was great to watch our early childhood students run around with each other and siblings on the playground while parents and guardians were able to connect. A big thank you to our early childhood program for organizing such a fun event.
Students continue to work on being kind, safe, and ready at school. Each week, selected students will be recognized as a “Bee Sash/Sticker Winner.” Students receive the bee sash or sticker by exhibiting kind, safe, and ready behaviors. The goal is for every child to have won by the end of the year. Keep your eye out for a bee sticker coming home, and be ready to ask your child what they did to be kind, safe, or ready at school!
We have our first PTO meeting at Westbrook on Wednesday, September 21st. Please feel free to join us in the Westbrook LRC at 7:00 pm. We are excited to hear more about the Walk for Westbrook, the Read-A-Way program, the Book Fair, and more!
We still need instructional assistants at Westbrook. These dedicated individuals support individuals, small groups, and classrooms. In addition, they provide supervision at arrival, dismissal, lunch, and recess. If you know anyone who may be interested, please encourage them to reach out to me.
For your children,
Danielle Crandall

Music News from Ms Clarke
1st GRADE CHORUS at WESTBROOK
Hello, my name is Julia Clarke and I am the music teacher here at Westbrook. I am thrilled to be starting the 1st Grade Chorus at Westbrook!
Chorus at Westbrook will be a fun place for our 1st grade students to gather together and make music beyond what they experience in the music classroom. We will learn how to make music as an ensemble, learn basic singing techniques, play singing games, and learn new songs from many different musical traditions and languages.
Rehearsals will take place every other Friday morning before school (8:30 am) and will last the entire year. We will have two choruses (Chorus A and Chorus B) to increase the number of people who can participate in this experience. The rehearsal process will culminate in a performance at the 1st grade concert in May.
If this sounds like an experience you'd like your student to participate in, please fill out the interest form found here.
Unfortunately, there will be a limit to the number of students who can participate. If the number of students interested in chorus exceeds the number of slots available, participation will be determined by random selection to make sure everyone gets a fair chance at being a part of this ensemble.
The interest form is due by Friday, September 23rd . Please feel free to reach out with any questions!
Thank you,
Julia Clarke

Safety Reminders
Please ensure you use the crosswalk in the parking lot to and from Westbrook.
Please do NOT walk between the buses. Staff members will be in front of the school each morning, reminding families to only cross at the crosswalk.
We kindly request you do not bring dogs or animals on school property. Many of our students are frightened of dogs.
Please contact the classroom teacher if you have a friend or family member picking up your child. Please communicate to the adult which door your child is dismissed from.
If you would like to use the Westbrook playground during the school day, please sign in at the office to receive a badge. This is an added safety measure for our teachers to identify approved visitors.
All visitors must ring the bell at door #1 and sign in with the office.
From the PTO
First Grade SPECIAL LUNCH
Special lunch is a PTO program that allows parents to order meals for their first graders once a month. Special lunch is served on the first Friday of every month starting in October through May (see details in the form, dates may vary).
The program offers a variety of choices from Dairy Queen, Jimmy Johns, Tortorice's Pizza, and Hubby's Dog House Hot Dogs.
Please fill out the form on this link for the dates your child will participate.
PAYMENT is DUE IN FULL for the entire year. ALL ORDERS DUE by SEPTEMBER 30th.
Is your child a bus rider?
Our bus company, First Student, offers parents an opportunity to sign up for bus bulletins. Buses may be delayed throughout the year due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., vehicular congestion, train traffic, weather, mechanical issues, etc.). The district has been using Bus Bulletin for several years now and is confident that this online notification system is the best way to inform parents should the need arise.
Click on the link for more information about Bus Bulletins and for details on how to sign up. www.BusBulletin.com/parents.
If you have questions regarding transportation and routing, contact First Student at (847) 635 - 9877.
