Big picture

The mission of Sioux Center Christian School is to disciple God’s children by equipping them with a knowledge and understanding of Christ and His creation so that they can obediently serve God and others as they work and play.

Every Student TREASURED, Every Student TRAINED, Every Student TRANSFORMED

It wasn’t snow that kept our teachers and students from the usual Thursday and Friday routine in mid February. Instead, teachers had the opportunity to process ideas and collaborate with one another for professional development. A slice of this time centered on prioritizing standards, aligning our English Language Arts standards, and using common forms of assessment. In a nutshell, we looked at what we teach and how we teach. Below is the vision and guiding principles that direct our professional development:

Professional Development at SCCS

"Provide a supportive community of learning for teachers that is focused on instructional improvement, serving the King, and impacting students."

Guiding Principles:

  • Collaboration, Support, and Practice
  • Learning-Centered focus on Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
  • Highlighting the use and analysis of data to inform curriculum and instruction
  • Assessing and Reflecting
  • Standards and research based theory and instructional strategies
  • Distinctly Christian

Last Friday, our fourth graders enjoyed a live animal presentation with Sunday Ford, a naturalist at Sioux County Conservation Board/Oak Grove Park . They received this special show because their decorated Christmas tree won the People's Choice award at Oak Grove this past Christmas. Students were Creation Enjoyers as they met Mo the box turtle, Lorenzo the tree frog, Star the tiger salamander, and Walt the fox snake. It was amazing to learn how God designed each animal in a way that helps them meet their needs for where they live and what they eat!

As they continue to study God's creatures, they are challenged to be thinking ‘WOW’ as these creatures cause us to Worship, Observe, and Wonder.

TRANSPORTATION - March 16 and 17

Sioux Center Community School will not have school on March 16 and 17 so the public school buses will not be running. Only the Christian school buses (2014 and 2020) will be running their morning and afternoon routes on these 2 days. All other students will need transportation to and from school.

In March we will be focusing on the Throughline "Earth Keeper.” We need clean, used t-shirts for our March 8 upcycling connection group activity. If you have a t-shirt you no longer need and would like to donate, please bring it to the school office, or place it on Jill Friend’s desk in the orchestra room by March 3. Any sizes, colors or designs work, but if you happen to have a Storyline t-shirt from a previous year, we would love to repurpose it for you!
