3rd Grade Update
IMPORTANT DATES
Week of 8/21 - iReady testing begins (both reading and math)
8/29 Vision and Hearing
SOFT START AND BREAKFAST
In order to maintain the safety of our school campus we are asking for students to arrive no earlier than 8:25. At 8:25, parents are asked to say “goodbye” to their children at the door and not enter the building. If you have business/meetings to take care of in the building, PLEASE be sure to enter at the front doors and sign in at the office. Please remember that this is for the safety of all of our students and staff. We don’t want children waiting outside of the building before school with no supervision. Students will be allowed to come into the building and go straight to their classroom at 8:25 each morning. If your child is going to be eating breakfast they will need to go to the cafeteria before coming to the classroom. Breakfast ends each morning at 8:40. Finally, please let your student know to line up each morning right outside of the door marked with a blue M.
Homework and Planners
Students will fill out and bring home planners each day.
Students will have about 30 minutes of homework each day.
Reading - Read independently, with siblings, friends, animals, be read to, listen to an audiobook, or any other way your child WANTS to read. The purpose of this homework is to develop a habit of reading. Students are expected to read at least 20 minutes each day! Each student should have a just right reading book with them every day at school.
Math - Continue practicing addition and subtraction facts for automaticity! If your child knows all of the basic facts automatically, math will be so much easier! It takes some work, but it will REALLY help!! Here are some fun website to help with math practice. Factmonster.com Prodigy, 99Math, Khan Academy, XtraMath.com.
Spelling - Students will have 8 spelling words per week.
Math Lesson Review - Classwork not completed in class will need to be completed at home that evening, and returned the next day.
Thursday Folders - Thursday folders will generally go home with students each Thursday. Students will be expected to bring them back on Fridays empty.

Lunch and Snacks
Packing items that your child can open on his/her own helps them have more time to eat and enjoy the social time with friends.
Healthy snacks help sustain the energy it takes for developing brains!
Bring a water bottle filled with water each day!
LIGHTNING DISMISSAL
In the event lightning occurs during dismissal, a notification will be sent out through IC messenger. (Please make sure your contact information is up to date!)
Students who walk home are kept inside the building until a parent or authorized adult picks them up or the lightning stops from the classroom.
Walkers who are not picked up are allowed to walk home after a safe amount of time since the final lightning strike.
