What's happening at HGECC?
Can you believe it is second semester?!
Winterfest family night in December was so much fun! It was so nice to see all of you! There was face painting, crafts, games, and of course a visit with the "Big Guy" himself-Santa. Thank you to our staff and parent volunteer for helping decorate and for making the magic happen, to our custodians Kim and Mike for clean up, and all of our wonderful families that make it all worth it!
As we come back from our break, we will be reviewing expectations, rules, and routines. Sometimes we all need a little reminder and some practice after being away for a while. Conscious Discipline continues to be our focus as we work on identifying our feelings, and figuring out how to deal with our upset moments. Keep noticing those kind and helpful acts! We can't do it enough, so make it a point to tell your child when you see them being kind and helpful. What you focus on-you will get more of-and who doesn't want our kids to be kind and helpful?
We are working on rolling out a parent training on Conscious Discipline this semester, and information will be coming home soon. It will most likely be about a 7 week program for 1 hour per week. Think about whether this is something you can commit to, and watch for the flier to come home. There will be a limited number of spaces for our first training, and we would love to have you there!
Our staff is ready to be back and looking forward to an exciting semester of learning and growing. So much growth happens in the next 5 months before they head into summer! We love to see how they have changed as the year has passed.
If you ever have any questions at all, please feel free to call or email me. I am always happy to meet with you!

Conscious Discipline: Did you know?
When making a request to your child, offer two positive choices. This can be especially helpful for a child who has difficulty making transitions or ending a preferred activity. Instead of “It’s dinner time, turn that iPad off now”, try, “It’s time for dinner. Do you want to wash your hands at the kitchen sink, or in the bathroom?”
Attendance Reminder
Also-we are having an excessive amount of instances where children are being brought back on buses because no-one was there to get them off of the bus or they did not have their yellow bus card. Please make sure you are observing the 10 minute timeframe on either side of your drop off time (ex: if your drop off time is 4:27-be at the bus stop by 4:17 watching for the bus). It is very hard for your children to have to be brought back to school and wait for sometimes an hour to be picked up.
As a reminder-after this happens three times, bus services will be discontinued until a meeting occurs with Mrs. Collison to problem solve some solutions.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
