Superintendent's Advisory Committee
As most of you know there will be some changes next year in the Redwood City School District due to rising costs and declining enrollment. There is a committee, the Superintendent's Advisory Committee, made up staff, parents, and community members, coming up with ideas on how to help with the budget cuts needed. Below is the link with all sorts of notes, presentations, etc.
On Tuesday night next week, October 16, at 7:00 pm at MIT, we will hear the different options that this committee has come up with. Anyone is welcome to come, but I will give you a summary in my newsletter next week. The following week there are two meetings where parents can come and speak to the Board about options presented. These meetings are Monday, October 22, 6:00-8:00 pm, McKinley Institute of Technology (MIT) auditorium and Thursday, October 25, 6:00-8:00 pm, at the Taft MUB.
Here is the good news so far. At the Principal’s Coffee on Thursday morning, Dr. Baker spoke about how construction from the Bond will start soon at Kennedy (the new office building that will be built at the front of the school) and that the rest of the Kennedy plans have been submitted to the State for approval (classrooms, etc). This is not the case for all schools since there will most likely be some consolidation happening. However, we don’t know what all the options from the committee are. There may be some consolidating/moving of specific programs. If this majorly affects Kennedy then I would encourage you organize your voices and attend the meetings the week of October 22.
Save the Date - Thursday, November 15, 2018
Please join us for our first annual Elective & Club Showcase Night from 7:00-8:30 pm. We would love to have current and perspective families come see all of the cool activities students have been up to, watch some musical and drama performances, and participate in a few projects. Also, since Astronomy Night was such a huge success, we will bring the telescopes and ipads back out again. (Who knew you could hold an ipad up and have it identify everything in view in the sky through an app? Pretty cool!)
At 6:00 pm on that same night we would like to invite our Newcomer and ELD families to come join us for a potluck dinner to learn some tips about how to help your student to be become English proficient.
And... At 6:30 pm in the gym is the 7th grade Grand Canyon Informational Meeting.
