Parents of 8th Grade Students from Swansboro High School

We look forward to welcoming you and your child to Swansboro High School and to helping your child navigate towards excellence. Several opportunities are being offered to facilitate your child’s transition from middle school to high school. We realize this is a lot of information, and it may be a bit overwhelming…don’t stress! J We will host a Parent Night on March 19, 2018 at 6:00 pm in the high school auditorium. It is important for you to attend this event to aid in the understanding of high school graduation requirements and the registration process. In the coming weeks, you and your student will be able to view the Onslow County Schools Secondary Course of Study guide online. It is important to access this guide for more information on the courses that are offered countywide. The students will complete a four-year plan and the high school course selection form with the counselors at the middle school. When your student brings this information home, carefully review the graduation requirements and the courses your child has chosen for their freshman year. This process is very important as these courses dictate the courses for their schedule. The Course Selection form with your signature is due back to the middle school by March 29th. All students will input their course using this form selections online in PowerSchool during the school day on April 16th.

Freshman orientation will be hosted on August 2nd from 8:00-11:00 for students only. We strongly recommend your child attend this event. It is a great opportunity to become more acquainted with the school culture, meet some teachers and staff members, locate their classrooms and learn about classes and expectations. Students will need to report to the high school auditorium to register at 8:00 am. Ninth grade students will receive their schedules during this orientation. Student schedules will not be mailed home.

There will be a separate parent meeting on August 2nd at 10:30 am in the high school auditorium. This will be an opportunity to review some basic information to get the year started off with success. The meeting will last about 30 minutes to coincide with the conclusion of the student session.

We are looking forward to welcoming your Pirates to the 2018-2019 school year and are dedicated to working with your child to become a graduate of the Class of 2022. Please feel free to email any further questions to Robert Rodriguez (counselor)
