Technology Happenings Around LGH - Jan. 2019
We're Baaaaaaccccckkkkkk....
I hope that you all had a wonderful winter break! I know that the rest of the year is going to fly by! My technology focus for the remainder of the year is "Working Smarter...Not Harder". There are so many cool apps, add ons, and extensions that can be used to make tasks easier. I would like to get into classrooms and demo some of these tools. I try not to take up too much of your class time....usually 15 - 20 minutes is about all it takes for a mini lesson. Sign up at the link below to schedule a time. https://goo.gl/84pnPi
Do you have students that like to doodle????
I would love to have some students enter in Google's Doodle contest! All students have to do is create a "doodle" like the one that is on Google's search page. Entries are due by March 18th. I would love to work with students on this. Contact me for more information: debbie.turner@henry.k12.ga.us
Try something new...
Looking for a new way to do formative assessments? Try SparkPost from Adobe. It is free and students can use on their chrome books. Students can create digital exit tickets. Once you go to the website, click on get started for free, then create a graphic. It is very easy to use! All students have to do is open up Spark Post on their device, type in the same response they might write on an index card or sticky note, and share their creation as a link or picture file. You might give students (1) a specific prompt linked to the success criteria for your lesson, (2) ask students to pose a question they have, or (3) keep things very open and simply ask students to share a takeaway from a learning activity. Then they simply share the link with you. Easy!
Social Studies Teachers....
Check it out! NewseumED houses an incredible online collection of primary sources, news artifacts, and lessons that help teachers teach media literacy, civics, and all aspects of the First Amendment, giving you and your students an up-close look at history.
Makes you think....
As I am reading this article on EdSurge, I am thinking how much it reminds me of the great things that are going on at LGH. The article is about the six principals that make schools in Finland so successful. It is a quick read. Thoughts?
