Overview of Teaching & Learning
Programming is the process of selecting and sequencing learning experiences which enable students to engage with syllabus outcomes and develop subject specific skills and knowledge. The process of programming is typically shared and offers an opportunity for collaboration, professional reflection and evaluation.
Programs:
- reflect the needs, interests and abilities of students
- are based on syllabus outcomes and include a variety of teaching, learning and embedded assessment activities, strategies and resources to address the learning needs of all students
- are flexible and dynamic documents that change in response to student learning needs, school context, teacher evaluation and feedback
English
Students will continue to focus on developing their decoding skills in reading during Reading Groups with a specific focus on building fluency, predicting, monitoring and questioning. They will also build on their comprehension skills of finding information stated directly in the passage (literal questions) and determine the deeper meaning of the text that is not explicitly stated (inferential questions).
Persuasive texts will be the main focus for writing. Students will build their understanding of purpose, audience and language by drafting, proofreading and editing persuasive texts. They will be encouraged to explain and reflect on how they structure their writing to achieve intended purposes.
Mathematics
Students are required to count, order, read and record numbers of up to five digits. They will use informal and formal mental and written strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. Students will record, describe and complete number patterns and determine missing numbers in number sentences. They will estimate, measure, compare, convert and record length using formal units. Reading and recording of time on analog and digital clocks will also be covered. Students will name, describe and sketch particular three-dimensional objects and two-dimensional shapes.
Science & Technology
This term, Year 3 students will investigate how materials change state by adding or removing heat. They will conduct experiments and learn to complete a science report to document the experiments and the results.
Human Society and Its Environment - History & Geography
Creative Arts
In music with Mrs French, students will be focusing on the musical concept of beat and rhythm. Through listening, playing and moving to the beat, they will learn about concepts such as accent and meter, as well as simple time signatures. Students will record their own musical ideas using a combination of graphic notation and simple formal notation.
Personal Development, Health, Physical Education
This term students will participate in Growth Mindset lessons. They will learn the difference between a fixed and growth mindset and using mistakes as a learning opportunity to improve.
BSBF is held every Tuesday and PSSA/House sport is every Friday. Students should wear their sport uniform on these days. Please remember to bring a hat and a drink bottle.
