Jeff Mack Cardboard Challenge!
An optional challenge to all Kinder& 1st grade families!
Jeff Mack will be here next Wednesday, October 7th!
Hello, Hamilton Elementary Kindergarten & 1st grade families! You are invited to participate in an optional Jeff Mack Cardboard Challenge. Jeff Mack is an author and illustrator of children's books (website link below) and will be at Hamilton on October 7th. Teachers have been reading his books in class to help build excitement. Also, an order form to purchase an autographed book went home in early September. We have sold out of Good News, Bad News, but the other titles are still available. Look for the order form in the upcoming October Lions Lines. (picture courtesy of www.jeffmack.com)
So what is the challenge?!?
The family challenge is for you to create something out of cardboard and recycled materials that represents something from a Jeff Mack book!
Start with a shoebox or a refrigerator box, and transform it into a character or scene from one of his stories using recycled materials, You could even make Jeff Mack! Use his website for inspiration, and your imagination is the limit! Parents, please let your child assist in this project. Projects will be used to decorate the library for his visit.
All challenge projects are due Tuesday, October 6th at noon in the library.
Please make sure your child's name and teacher's name are clearly visible on the project.
Jeff Mack will select one project from Kindergarten and one from 1st grade as the winner. Each student will receive an autographed copy of Jeff's newest book Who Needs a Bath?
Inspiration for the challenge
This challenge is inspired by Caine's Arcade - a movie about a young boy with a big imagination. This true story has grown into a worldwide movement to inspire creativity in our young people and promoted by the Imagination Foundation. To learn more, click on the link below!
I hope your family chooses to participate in this challenge. I would LOVE it if you would send me pictures of your child working on the project if I can post them on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Please email questions and pictures to me at jennifer.lucas@cfisd.net.
