AROUND WCPSS

November 6th - Two Hour Delay

All WCPSS schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, November 6th for state and local elections.

The law requires that if local election officials ask to use a public school campus as a polling place, the request must be honored. Measures will be in place to ensure the safety of school campuses during the polling process. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Steidinger.

READvolution

Don't forget to log those minutes of reading time through Friday, Nov. 16th. The Readvolution challenge features both individual and school-wide components, as well as goals for each. Students who achieve the goal of reading 20 minutes per day throughout the allotted time frame (for a total of 800 minutes) will receive TWO complimentary ticket vouchers to a Hurricanes home game!!

Math Volunteers Needed

Do you enjoy math? Do you enjoy working with children? We have the perfect opportunity for you to use your talents to support our students.

We will provide you with the activities and answer keys you will need to be successful. Come learn more about ways you can be used to work with students in math during small group instruction.

The 3rd-5th intervention training session for all interested volunteers is on Monday, October 29th from 9:30-10:00.

Contact Ms. Gallucci at cgallucci@wcpss.net with any questions or for more details.

Front Office Donations

The front office sees its fair share of owies and germies in the course of a day. Ice packs and hand sanitizer are in constant turnover. When we found out about the need, we thought our wonderful OCE Families might be able to help.

Take a look at the sign up here and see if you would be willing to donate either of these items. Then drop them off at the front office.

Thank you so much!

TREASURE CHEST

Fun Run Finish Line!

Congratulate those runners! They did a GREAT job running, participating in the MindSpark theme, and, most importantly, raising funds for our school!

We can't wait to get back to you with the final tallies, but congratulations to all tracks for participating the last two weeks. You made a difference!

Special thanks to all the parent volunteers, especially Whitney Brown and Angie Kirkland, as well as the teachers and staff who assisted the Boosterthon folks in making this another great fundraiser for our beloved Olive Chapel Elementary.

Sponsorship Thank You: Noah's Ark

A special thank you to Noah's Ark Childcare Services in Apex who is an ongoing sponsor of Olive Chapel Elementary. For each OCE student that attends Noah's Ark programs, they make a donation to the school!

Please thank them when you see them and check out their website for more information on their before and after school programs as well as track out camps and more.

THANK YOU NOAH'S ARK CHILDCARE SERVICES!

Spirit Night: Save the Date

Our next Spirit Night is coming up! So mark your calendars and join us for a fun evening with your OCE family. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to OCE.

Where: Glory Days Grill, 1413 Kelly Road (in the Publix Pointe Shopping Center)

When: Monday, November 5th

Why: Good food, friends, no dishes to clean up, and it's a fundraiser for your school? That's a win-win-win-win!

CREW NEWS

Walk to School Wednesday!

November 7th is our next Walk to School Wednesday!

Will the 1st grade have the most number of walkers again?

Will Officer Patel have more trivia questions?

How many steps does it take to get from your home to OCE?

Wear your pedometer, track those steps, then get to school and find out the answers to all of your questions!

See you on the sidewalks!

All Treats and No Tricks for our OCE Teachers

Check out these spooky treats created and hand-delivered to our teachers and staff by Laurie Jendrasiak as part of the PTA's ongoing Staff Appreciation efforts. Thank you for continuing to show our teachers such love!

LAST WEEK For Kids Corps Club Hurricane Relief Coin Drive

It's the last week to send in coins for the OCE Kids Corps Club Coin Drive to support Pine Valley Elementary School in Wilmington affected by Hurricane Florence.

The #letthecoinsflo coin drive ends November 1st.

Send in your coins and help a school in need!

Fitness Photo Fun!

During the next several weeks we will practice Physical Fitness and its components

(cardio, strength, muscle endurance and flexibility) in PE and learn all about why it is so

important to stay physically fit.

Please send in a favorite photo of your student being physically active. They can bring it with them to PE class. We will place them on the PE bulletin board to see what the students at OCE are doing to stay fit.

Thank you! ~ Coach Roberts

Crayola Color Cycle Program

Don't forget to drop off your used markers, highlighters, and dry erase markers in the ColorCycle donation drop boxes at school before November 30th.

The Crayola ColorCycle program repurposes used markers rather than sending them to landfills.

Students and teachers all around OCE will be collecting used markers that are ready to be discarded. Please help support our efforts by sending in any used markers you may have around the house -- even non-Crayola brands! Highlighters and dry erase markers can also be included.

LEGO Club

LEGO club is a staff led BEFORE-school club for K, 1st and 2nd grade students only.

LEGO Club focuses on inspiring children to think creatively, reason systematically, and use their imagination to play. LEGO Club will take place on Wednesday mornings from 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. in the library starting January 2nd. Students must be dropped off promptly at 8:00 a.m.

PLEASE REGISTER EACH CHILD INDIVIDUALLY. If you are interested, please fill out this registration form. There will be a $5 registration fee. You can send the fee into your child's teacher with your child's name on it. Make checks payable to OCE PTA or use this link for online payment.

REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE NOV. 9TH.

If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Brittany Cabaleiro (2nd grade Track 1) at bcabaleiro@wcpss.net.
