LPES is Creating a College-Going Culture from the Door!
This year in AVID, we will have a strong focus on integrating literacy into the areas of Science and Social Studies through the implementation of close reading, Socratic seminar, and Philosophical Chairs. You will be well-trained and well-equipped to implement each of these AVID strategies with 100% effectiveness, Get Ready!
We look forward to partnering with you this year in our pursuit of Literacy excellence in Science and Social Studies!
Here are some immediate AVID action steps to consider for the first week of school:
- Set up your AVID Binders with cover sheets, dividers, and clear protective sheets
- Third grade will have one binder for all subjects
- Fourth and Fifth grade will have two binders: one for reading and writing, and one for math, science, and social studies.
- Distribute learning tools that students will need on week 2 of instruction to matriculate through academic tasks independently.(Example: Character traits, narrative writing checklist)
- Distribute agendas and make it a habit for students to update their agendas with their homework and class assignment due dates.
- Check for parent signatures to ensure the communication from school to home is in tact.
