Also, please take the time to talk to your child about the importance of these tests and trying his or her best. Remind your child not to bring electronic devices into the testing room. If a student is in possession of an electronic device when they enter the classroom, they will be directed to give it to the teacher prior to the test. If your child is found with an electronic device in his or her possession during testing, the test will be invalidated.
Thank you in advance for your support in this matter.

Grade level News
Kindergarten
In KG we have been practice reading. We are also working on writing. Three classrooms are creating class books that will be published!
DRA testing will be taking place soon. It is very important that each child practice reading and retelling a story each night.
First Grade
Happy Spring from the first-grade team!
First graders have been learning about living / non-living in Science and we are excited to make our biomes. First graders will plant seeds to have living plants and use pebbles to decorate (non-living) their biomes. Thank you for sending in donations of 2-liter bottles for us to make them. Special thanks to the families that sent in seeds, soil, and pebbles. You rock!
In math, students will extend their knowledge of adding multiples of ten to include subtraction. They will also be expected to relate the strategies for addition and subtraction to written methods and explain their reasoning.
What is a budget? Your child will learn the difference between needs / wants. Our reading text will teach us how to save money for a special item, too. It is never too early to learn when to save or spend!
Read, read, read! First graders are becoming fluent and confident readers. They are using RAZ kids, Waterford and Reading Counts as they test comprehension skills to earn points. Reading is fun!
1st grade and 4th Grade Science Buddies
Ms. Iamesi's, Mrs. Okeefe's, and Mrs. Brule's students used their Forces and Motion knowledge to design, create, test, and compete to see which groups' Catipult could make their cube fly the farthest. The students were given the following supplies to design their Catapult creations: paper, pencil, bowl, 2 spoons, 2 wooden sticks, 6 inches of masking tape, 4 elastic bands, and ones cubes. Next, we had every group competed to find our top teams. Then, we had another round to narrow and find our 2 top groups. Last, they competed one more time in our grand finale. All of the engaged students' made us proud as they used cooperation, teamwork, and encouraging words with each other. DLE eagles definitely soared high today in room 608! We can't wait for our science encounter together!
Second Grade
Second graders can't get enough reading! They have been working hard taking Reading Counts tests and achieving their reading goals.
Two second grade students, Khalfani F. and Madeline W., have reached 200 Reading Counts points!!! Wahoo!!!
They enjoyed a special lunch with our principal, Ms. Ortiz. So proud of their hard work!
Third Grade
We have been very busy preparing and practicing for our first FSA tests! Please have students in class before 7:55am, eat a good breakfast, and be well rested. FSA READING is April 9 &10th. FSA MATH is April 16 & 17th. Remind students to do their best, but not to be nervous.
We've learned about plants and their classifications in science. In math, the students are working hard to master fractions, area, perimeter, multiplication, division, two-step story problems, and will be practicing geometric figures.
We are very excited for our Sea World field trip on May 3rd! Money is due no later than April 19th! Remember that all participants must pack a lunch, so chaperones, please bring a backpack!Fourth Grade
With FSA Math right around the corner, please continue to practice old skills with your child. A good way of doing this is IXL. This is a free website your child has access to through their Vportal accounts. This website has every math skill you can think of. Have students work on skills they're struggling with or need a refresher on. FSA is a combination of skills they have worked on all year (some skills they havent seen since the first nine weeks!). What is also neat about this website is it corrects students work and tells them how to correctly complete the problem.
For FSA Reading, students can continue reading for twenty minutes a night. After they are done reading, ask them comprehension questions to see if they understood what they read. Questions such as, what is the main idea of the page you read, who are the main characters, Why do you think the author used this word in the story, Tell me in your own words what the story was about and describe the characters traits. These are all skills your child may see on FSA.
St. Augustine field trip permission slips should be going home the first week of April!

Helping Your Child to do Their Best on Testing Days
The best thing you as a parent can do to help your child do his/her best on standardized tests is to provide positive support by expressing confidence in your child’s ability to do their best. On test days try to provide a calm, stress-free environment. Here are some tips.
*Get plenty of rest each night
*Get to school on time each day
*Eat a good breakfast
*Have a positive attitude
*Try hard- do your best
*Listen carefully and follow directions
*Think before you answer
*Read directions and questions carefully
*Don’t rush- work at middle speed
*Check over your work when finished
*Don’t expect to know every answer- use the ‘process of elimination’ if needed
Children should know that test scores are important but are not the measure of your love and acceptance of them.

Primer grado
