February 2018
Coding Robots
In December we worked on "Hour of Code" on the computers. The link below can access all the different activities. If any students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade students need their log in information, please email me.
We have had the pleasure of having the BeeBot robots since the beginning of February. These are robots that the students program to move around. The primary students had fun with the BeeBots that HES owns in November and December. There has been a lot of problem solving and critical thinking happening while using the BeeBots. Check out my Twitter feed for videos of the BeeBots in action.
We have also had the pleasure of having OzoBots since the beginning of February. Ozobots are miniature robots that can follow lines or roam freely, detect colors and can be programmed using visual codes. It took some time and practice to get the hang of using the Ozobots, but the kids had so much fun! Check out my Twitter feed for videos of the Ozobots in action.
Below I have a video of the Beebots in action. I challenged Second Grade to make a parking spot for their Beebot. They had to code the path to get there. The next two videos are of the Ozobots in action. First up is the student explaining what his group created and the second is a close up of the Ozobot in action. You might need to turn the volume up for the student video.
We are able to use these robots thanks to generous donations Northrop Grumman Corporation, Dominion Energy, and the Association of Old Crows Pax River Roost. Soon, I hope to be able to bring the Dash and Dot robots to HES that were donated by Raytheon.
