Ponce De Leon first set foot in Florida in 1513
He is most famous for naming Florida "the land of flowers".
Ponce De Leon was killed in a skirmish with the Calusa Indians.
In a battle wit the Calusa, Ponce de Leon was hit with a poisoned arrow. He was taken to Cuba to recover but his wound became infected and he died at the age of 47.
