Week 3 SFDS Newsletter 2023

Kia ora e te Whānau

It has been a wild and windy time in Wellington. The children and staff remain upbeat despite the weather! Please reach out if you need any support during the stormy weather. It was lovely to hold our Mihi Whakatau to welcome our new children and their families this morning. Thank you to Matua Ron Taukamo for your support.

It is with sadness that I let you know that Megan Gill, one of our wonderful teachers, is leaving St Francis de Sales school at the end of this term. Megan has been a much-loved member of our staff and community for 3 years now. She will be much missed, but we wish her well for her next life chapter.

Thank you to the supporters of the Island Bay festival parade. The Year 7&8s were fabulous with their house chants and happy leadership on the day. Special thanks also to Isobel, Maeva, Elijah, Cielo and Oliver for all stepping up to support the waiata after the speakers at the festival.

Tuesday morning was a good test to see how many families received immediate information about the school remaining open despite the storm. 32 parents/caregivers received push notifications to their mobile devices within seconds of the message going out. Other families had to wait for the email to arrive. This is because only 32 parents/caregivers have installed the Hero App so far.

You will be far more informed when you install the app and sign up to Hero. Please note that eventually the school app will be closed so that we are not running two platforms.

Instructions: How to set yourself up on Hero

Take care everyone and enjoy your week. Please keep our family in your prayers as we celebrate the wedding of our eldest daughter this weekend.

Uniforms are now available to order though our Kindo shop. Here you will find our complete stock list and the sizes available.

Orders are made up once a week on a Friday morning. Once made up these will be delivered to your child before home time Friday afternoon. If your child is away that day we will aim to deliver the items on the next day they are at school.

If you require a uniform fitting, please email the school office with a list of what you need. Your child will then be fitted with the required uniform and the correct sizes to order will be sent home via email for you to order online.

If you would like to be there while they are fitted please let the office know and we will be in touch with a booking time.

We offer three lunch options each week that can be ordered online. Place your orders via the Kindo shop by 9am on the day*. Named orders will be dropped off by 12.30pm on the day and can be collected from the school office. Please ensure you receive a confirmation of your order – it can be quite upsetting if a child thinks they are getting a lunch and it doesn’t arrive.
