Woodbury Junior-Senior High School - Weekly Newsletter

Message from the Principal:
The first marking period has officially come to a close; it seemed to go by incredibly fast. Teachers are finalizing grades now. Parents should be able to log into PowerSchool by Wednesday of next week to see exactly how your child performed for the first quarter of the year.
It should be noted that some students might still be operating under the mistaken notion that grades will be artificially inflated due to the pandemic. This is completely false. Students who did not do the work assigned or who did so poorly, will be issued grades that are commiserate with their performance/effort. There are a myriad of daily opportunities for students to get additional help if they need it. Teachers hold office hours in the afternoons that allow for individual attention and questions to be answered. If your child did not do as well as you would have liked, please encourage them to attend these office hours regularly until their grades improve. Further, the administrative staff will go through first quarter grades early next week and begin assigning mandatory office hours to students who did poorly.
Our first week of in-person, hybrid instruction went well! A big thank you goes out to all parents who sent their child to school with a mask and familiarized them with our new safety protocols! This truly helped make for a smooth opening. Our teachers, support staff and administrators were amazing getting everything ready; their yeomen's work is greatly appreciated!
Please be sure to check out the athletics section below as there have been some incredible individual and team performance of late!

Dr. Vivadelli
Student Health Screenings
In an effort to protect the health of your child, other students, and our staff, we are requiring daily health screenings for our students. It is the expectation that parent/guardians will conduct this daily check for symptoms each morning before allowing your child to go to school. We are collecting this one-time sign-off from our parents/guardians as your confirmation that you will complete this monitoring on a daily basis and assure Woodbury City Public Schools that your child will not attend school on the day these symptoms are present or have had any exposure to Covid-19.

Mr. Sheppard's Students Hold a Mock Election
Over the past few weeks, 6th graders have been preparing for their participation in a NJ Mock Student Election. They learned about the requirements to run for the presidency, how the Electoral College Works, and each presidential candidate’s stance on issues that are important to the students. Finally, they received their own Electronic Ballot for their Congressional District and cast their votes! The image shows how students (grades 6-8) in each Congressional District voted in the Mock Presidential Election. The combined results for all students (grades 6-8) who participated within our Congressional District #1 are posted in the top row of the chart. You can also see how our District’s results compare with others throughout the state along with the totals at the bottom of the chart! Thank you for your participation, 6th grade students!

Middle School Soccer:
Both the boys and girls middle school soccer programs seasons have ended. It was a great season seeing all of our young student athletes develop and improve through the season. Coach Adamson and Coach Richardson did a phenomenal job and we look forward to the continued growth of our middle school athletes.
Girls Soccer:
Alexa LaCroix scored two goals, the second coming off a feed from Hailey Hartwyk four minutes into overtime to give Woodbury a 3-2 victory over Gloucester. Hartwyk finished with a goal and two assists and Ryann Storms made 15 saves.
The girls’ soccer team also beat Lindenwold 1-0. Katie Boyle scored the game’s only goal assisted by Alexa LaCroix. The girls improved to 7-2 on the season this week.
Boys Soccer:
Senior Sincere Kato netted four goals to lift Woodbury to a 7-1 win over Gloucester.
Sophomores Erik Medina, Kaden Adams and Daviont Alston-Baker each added a goal for Woodbury.
Our boys’ soccer team upset defending Group I Champions Lindenwold in overtime. Daviont Alston-Baker scored the game’s only goal. The boys improved to 7-4 on the season.
Field Hockey:
The athletic department and Field Hockey Team want to give a HUGE SHOUTOUT to our only Field Hockey Senior, Aaliyah Robinson! She’s an intricate member of Field Hockey, Track, Sports Medicine Club, Varsity Club, & Football Manager. Aaliyah represents what everyone wants in a student athlete, a leader who always brings a great attitude!
