Budget Update
HISD has made an adjustment to the funding model and the district is moving back to a campus based PUA with cuts to each campuses overall budget. This means that the FTE model that I previously shared with you is no longer the model the district will move to. Principals will receive more clarification in Wednesday's principals meeting and I hope to be able to share more specifics with you in this weeks staff meeting. In general what this means is:
- Campuses will get their budgets as normal
- Every campus will see cuts in their budget
- Based on the budget I will allocate funds to salary and then to other areas like general supplies, etc.
- Our campus is still slated to get Title I funds next year(this is a big plus for us)
- and last, finally I have seen our Magnet budget and we do have funds allocated to us for Magnet
More updates as they come, but wanted to give you a quick overview of where things are.
Congrats!
Creating High Expectations for All
I ran across this quick read and many points in the article resonated with me. As I thought about high expectations and rigor, a few thoughts/questions kept swirling around in my head:
- Our campus has become increasingly more diverse in the types of learners that we serve. Are we reaching them all and do we have the same high expectations for all?
- Do we expect high levels of performance for our GT and Non-GT students?
- How do push non-compliant learners achiever higher?
- Do we reduce or water down what we ask of certain students because we do not feel they can succeed?
Many more questions and reflections come to mind as I've read and re-read this article. I hope it's a quick read that also causes you to reflect on your practice and how you are reaching the students in your care. Happy reading!
