News from Student Transportation

The Transportation Office is requesting that parents refrain from sending a note giving permission to their child to ride another child's school bus. The buses within the Hamlet of Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan and Camrose are almost at capacity and your child may not be permitted to board their friend's bus. Thank you.

School Bus Safety

We had beautiful weather for our annual School Bus Safety Drill. We successfully evacuated 430 students from the school busses on Wednesday. Even though your child may not take a school bus to and from school, chances are they will be on a school bus, at some point, this school year. We are all about "Safety of the student".

Mr. Berg's Counsellor's Corner

The Boys and Girls Club of Fort Saskatchewan is hosting presentations this year on some interesting subjects. The full list is available by clicking here. These presentations are free of charge but the club is asking that you register by phone or email first. The first session looks very interesting, it is on September 29th and is on Understanding and Managing your Child's Anger.

Student Fees and Forms

Just a reminder that all School Fees are due September 30th. Payment can be made by debit or credit card by visiting your child's PowerSchool account, or at the school office by cash or cheque. Cheques can also be sent to school with your child, please make them payable to Elk Island Catholic Schools.

Also found on your child's PowerSchool account, under the "Forms and Fees" tab, are many of the consent forms that have been sent out on paper in the past. These forms include the annual field trip consent form which needs to be completed before your child will be allowed to participate in any off-site school activities. Please complete these forms as soon as possible as we have many classes who have field trips planned for next week! Please see our school website for further instructions.

School Fees & Waiver Forms

School fees are now available to pay online using your Powerschool Parent Portal. If you need help logging in, please call or email the school office and we will help create an account for you.

If you are experiencing financial difficulties, EICS is offering a Fee Waiver Program again this year.

Please visit: https://www.eics.ab.ca/download/77800 to download a copy of the forms to fill out.

Please not that all applications must be received at EICS by December 12th, 2016.

Emergency / Medical Forms

MEDICAL INFORMATION... The school office must be informed of any students with medical concerns who require some form of medication during school hours whether it be a prescribed medication EpiPens, inhalers, insulin etc... or an over-the-counter medication (headache, insect bites, seasonal allergies). It is imperative that the appropriate forms be completed in full and submitted to the school office together with the medication. Please contact Mrs. Wilson if you need assistance.

Medication will only be accepted with fully completed forms. EpiPens – Capital Health recommends that children who have severe allergies and require an EpiPen carry these EpiPens with them at all times. Many children carry an EpiPen with them in a “fanny pack”. We would like to see all children carry their EpiPens with them; however, some parents prefer that the EpiPens be stored in the office area. If your child will not carry his/her EpiPen, we ask that you provide two EpiPens: one for the office and one for the classroom. If you are only supplying one EpiPen, please submit a letter indicating this. Students may carry their inhalers in their backpacks or store in the office.

Grade Three SLA's "Student Learning Achievement"

GRADE 3 STUDENT LEARNING ASSESSMENTS

Grade 3 students will be participating in Alberta Education Student Learning Assessments in October. This assessment enables teachers to learn about and identify student strengths and areas of growth at the beginning of the school year. Information will be sent home with grade 3 students very soon. If you have questions, please contact your child's grade three teacher: Ms. Stanna Kelava, Mrs. Lisa Morin, Mrs. Yvette Morin, or Mrs. Kerri DeChamplain.

Terry Fox Run

Thursday, Sep. 29th, 2-3pm

St. John XXIII Catholic School Fort Saskatchewan

TOONIES FOR TERRY On Thursday, September 29, 2016, our school will be taking part in the 36th Anniversary of The Terry Fox National School Run Day. Many people today have a connection to someone who has cancer, so the run can serve as a personal dedication to a friend or relative, as well as necessary fundraising. Students will have the opportunity to discuss the heroic efforts of Terry over the next few days and raise much needed funds for cancer research. All monies raised will be forwarded to The Terry Fox Foundation.

RSVPs are enabled for this event.
