Counselor Corner
The week of October 4-8 is designated as Kansas Anti-Bullying Awareness Week. Our theme this year is Choose Peace. We will be working on our Second Step Bully Prevention Units during the month of October in all classes and our traditional dress-up week will be the last week of this month, as we also celebrate National Red Ribbon Week. Look for more info to come on dress-up week! Be thinking about ways that you can make the world a better place by using kind words and standing up against bullying behaviors. Our classroom lessons will focus on this theme during the month of October. Mrs. Daniel, our school counselor, will also be reading A little Spot of Kindness and A Little Spot of Empathy with students.
The Second Step program teaches children important skills for getting along with others and doing well in school. It also helps our school to be a safe, respectful place where everyone can learn.

Art News
Welcome to Square 1 Art! We are excited to partner with your child's school to celebrate their creativity and raise funds for the art room. We are celebrating 20 years of helping schools raise funds through the visual arts!
Coming home this month will be your child’s custom catalog featuring their artwork. Students have been working on individual projects in art class.
Wouldn’t you love to share your child’s artwork with family and friends? The Square 1 Art fundraiser provides you the opportunity to purchase keepsakes and gifts featuring your child’s art! Every order profits the school! These will be shipped just in time for the holiday gift-giving season.

FALL BOOK FAIR
We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair. Hosted by our staff, this
event is an opportunity for students of all ages to build their home libraries and further their
love of reading. As always, all purchases benefit our school.
Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place October 11-14 in the library.
We will be open from 3:40-4:00, Monday and Tuesday, 4:30-8:30 on Wednesday and 11:00-7:00 on Thursday.
Our Book Fair offers a cash-free payment option called eWallet. It’s a convenient digital
account that your child can use for shopping at our Fair. Grandparents, friends, and
others can contribute, too! We also accept cards and cash.
If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop online at our school’s Virtual Book Fair. All
orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.
Visit our Book Fair home page to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:

Fall Parties and Parade
On October 29th, students will have the opportunity to participate in a costume parade and class party. In order to make our school activity appropriate for the school setting, and to ensure a fun, safe, and healthy activity, please note the following policy and guidelines in place at Prairie Center.
Costumes: Children, their safety, and education are top priority at this school. Because of these concerns, the guidelines listed here should be used as you select the costume your child will wear.
- No blood, guts, weapons or gore.
- No face/body paint should be brought to school eliminating the potential risk of spills and stains. (Costume make-up used to create such details as freckles or whiskers can be worn to school as long as it is not so obvious as to cause disruptions resulting in distracting students from instruction.)
- Please send the costume in a sack. Children will be given time to change into their outfit just before the activities begin.
Parade: The plan is for our parade to be outside so that any families that want to come and watch are able to. If we move the parade inside because of the weather, we will not be able to have families come in to view the parade. We will send communication the day of if this is the case.
Room Parents/Volunteers: Only room parents/party planners are able to participate in the class parties this October to limit the amount of people that are in the classroom at one time.
Veterans Day
Prairie Center Families,
We have a great tradition of celebrating Veterans Day here at Prairie Center…and we are delighted to be back in action this year! We are once again putting together a visual presentation of Prairie Center family members who have served, or are currently serving, our country. If you have such a family member, we want to include them!
