Park Terrace Elementary
April 14, 2021 Newsletter
Greetings Park Terrace Families!
I want to begin this week’s message with a HUGE shout out to the students and staff that are in Extended Flexible Learning. I am so thoroughly impressed with the hard work that the students are doing online to continue their educational journey. At the same time, the efforts of our teachers to creatively engage and personalize learning opportunities are second to none.
Here are a couple of examples from online learning. Our 4th graders recently took a virtual trip the Grand Canyon. They also had an opportunity to meet Ilhan Omar, the U.S. Representative for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district. Students are engaging in science projects, learning reading and writing, and building a community of classmates all while they are online. Thank you to everyone in online learning for your hard work. We are just incredibly proud of you.
In light of the recent tragic events in our community and around our country I want to remind everyone that at SLP, a commitment to equity anchors us and the words of our vision guide us. Through our actions, we create a space where each student feels valued, inspired, and has a sense of belonging. There is no place for hate, violence, racism or harassment here.
We continue to help students develop critical thinking and care for each member of our community, advocating for and empathizing with others, and valuing diverse perspectives and beliefs. Additionally, please know that we have a support team and resources available for any student that would like support. Please reach out to your student’s teacher if you think this may be of help to your student during these times.
It’s hard to believe it but registration for summer child care is now open! The theme this summer is the Olympics. If you are looking for summer childcare for your school-aged children to 6th grade, please take a look at their program: Learning Ventures Summer Child Care.
Additionally, I am pleased to report that opportunities for after school programming are expanding as well! This spring there are after school options for art and sports. Please see further below in the newsletter for more information as well as links to register your student!
As we get closer and closer to the end of the year, let’s keep up all the good work we have been doing – learning in the classroom, learning online and following health and safety precautions. Let’s finish the year strong!
