- I hope everyone's parent teacher conferences go off without a hitch. If you need me or any of our interventionists to help you with a conference, please let us know asap. As you finalize your schedules, please send them to the office so that we can help when parents call to schedule.
My biggest tip is parents will usually do anything for a teacher that they believe truly loves and cares for their child. Feeling the love is what makes all the difference.
- Tips for a great parent teacher conference!
- Create a welcoming environment. ...
- Open with positives. ...
- Discuss progress and growth. ...
- Avoid teacher-talk. ...
- Ask questions and listen. ...
- Make a plan. ...
- Be honest and have a thick skin. ...
- Follow up.
If you see that your conference isn't going to be done within the time limit, politely ask the parent to schedule a follow up conference. Sometimes the time away will do some good and it allows more time to be in depth about an area of concern.

CHAMPS tips
~Consistency is key! The more we work together as a school in all common areas, the better. All Westside kids are OUR kids!
~Reminding students of expectations before beginning each activity will help set their routine.
~Students need numerous times to practice before it is cemented. The more practice we give them, the better they will become at following our expectations.
~Dismissal is a huge time for practice. The more times they do it right, the better! Let's make sure we are coming together as a school to ensure that all students are following the hallway expectations even after they leave our hallway.
** We have some new posters up and plan to add a few more next week. Going over the expectations multiple time is OK. I have enjoyed watching the classes that use them during writing workshop and other times. As soon as they start going over their poster, the bad behavior stops! Give it a try if you haven't already.
