SPRIGEO - Soledad Unified School District Tip Line
Soledad Unified recognizes that creating a safe learning environment is a critical part of helping each child achieve academic success. An online system that students can use to report bullying incidents and school safety threats Sprigeo is now available to students.
Sprigeo provides students with a relevant way to report tips that keep their classmates safe and school administrators informed. The mobile app and web site versions of the tip line can be utilized on personal devices as well as district-issued iPads, Chromebooks, etc. Students are the eyes and ears of your school community. Students can access the reporting form directly through a link on our schools websites or thye may go to the Sprigeo.com web site. After completing the reporting form and clicking the “submit” button, the report details are sent in a secure email to our school administrators. Over 90% of students include their name when using the Sprigeo system. The number one reason why children do not report bullying or abuse is the fear of retaliation from their peers. The Sprigeo reporting form can be accessed from the privacy of a home computer or other Internet equipped device, eliminating the possibility of being identified by another student.

A Message From SUSD Technology Department:
Elementary Teachers, your help is greatly appreciated with the care of your iPad carts. This includes making sure the cables remain organized, locking up your iPads at the end of the day, etc. You can find our guidelines here. Please tape these to your cart as a reminder, especially in case you have a substitute one day.
Also, please remember students should not be marking/writing on their iPad cases. They can personalize them with stickers only. Writing/marking will result in a new case fee for the student.
For all teachers: check out our Tech Tips sheet with a bunch of useful Tech tips here.
SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
We Celebrate You!
We in Support Services have one of the greatest calling which is to serve our students with unique needs. We serve where we stand. Hence we join you as we take the first steps toward another successful year!
We celebrate the historical decision to create a SDC Mild-to-Moderate K-6 grade program at Frank Ledesma Elementary School. This could not occur without the support of staff, administrators, parents, and the Board of Trustees. It takes a village to move mountains to make way for our precious students who will benefit from attending one elementary school prior to transitioning to middle school.
Another accomplishment in Support Services is the addition of a Special Education TOSA and a soon to be third Interpreter/Translator. Soon we will interview for a Special Education Coordinator position. These are exciting times for Support Services and we truly appreciate your awesome support that you provide to students with special needs!

Tips for difficult behaviors:
1) Utilize "first - then" model. Ask them to "first" do a non preferred activity followed by "then" a preferred activity.
2) When some of our special education students have behaviors or outbursts in a regular classroom, some of the regular education students may become alarmed, startled, or frightened by a special education student's behaviors. I have had great results when other students (with the teacher's gentle guidance) are allowed to advocate for themselves by letting the child who had an outburst know how it makes them feel. The student might say to the special education student: "It hurts my ears when you yell during class. Please don't yell in class." Or "I want to be your friend, but it scares me when you yell/scream in class. Can you please stop?" This helps to not normalize the behavior by ignoring. Some of our behavior students do not have the insight as to how their behavior affects others and may need to hear it from peers rather than adults. However, if this does not work, the student might be taken out of class and told he is disturbing the class room and return when he is calm (this would be if the student had a one-on-one, for example).
Tips for unmotivated students:
1. If a student is unmotivated, uninterested in school:
*Tip: Determine the student's preferred activities, interests, etc. and incorporate them into the class or throughout the day. Also, provide the student with a "real-life" experience in which professionals from the workforce visit the classroom to discuss their job and the importance of school to work experience that involve math, reading, writing, etc.
