Words of Wisdom

"Only morality in our actions can give beauty and dignity to life." ~Albert Einstein

"Because of your smile, you make life more beautiful." ~Thich Nhat Hanh

Many people live lives that are sadly lacking in both beauty and dignity. Some are living in ugly and demoralizing circumstances. They haven’t been taught the value of living a good and decent life and the loveliness that is born of it.

There are times when one of the kindest actions we can take is to simply give others a smile, one that is loaded with caring and says “I see you. I value you. The sight of you made me smile.”

Ethical Principle of the Month

October's Ethical Principle is Caring and Respect. "My humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be human together." -Desmond Tutu

Picture Day is Tuesday November 1!

CPA's picture day is on Tuesday November 1. Families can order photos using the instructions on the envelope that will be coming home with students, or families can order online by visiting mylifetouch.com and entering Picture Day ID EVTQ4P4W3. All students will have their picture taken, regardless of whether the family orders pictures.

Picture day is a free dress day. Please review the free dress day policy (below) as a family and ensure students are dressed accordingly.

On free dress days, students must still wear clothing that is representative of the philosophy of Community of Peace Academy. Clothing, such as shirts or pants that feature pictures, phrases, or statements, must represent or promote peace and a non-violent/healthy lifestyle. All items of clothing must fit comfortably and be school appropriate.

1. Spaghetti straps, off the shoulder tops, halter or strapless tops are not allowed.

2. Coats, jackets, caps, hats, and outerwear must be kept in lockers.

3. Skirts and/or shorts must be mid-thigh or longer.

4. Pants/shorts with holes are not allowed.

5. Clothing items that are transparent or sheer must have clothing worn under that meets the above criteria.

If it is ever a question as to whether or not you may be out of uniform or whether or not your choice of dress is appropriate, please contact your Principal.

Minnesota Goes to College Month!

October is Minnesota Goes to College Month (also known as College Knowledge Month). It provides graduating high school seniors with the preparation, opportunity, and support needed to apply and enroll in college. Each school year, participating colleges and universities waive their application fees. What a great way to save money!

Click here to see the colleges participating in this month-long event!

CPA seniors will apply to colleges during their Ethics and College & Career Exploration classes. We know they will go on to do amazing things!

School Pay

Are you looking for an easier way to make payments at school? Create a SchoolPay account!

SchoolPay accounts make it easier to process any payments you need to make to the school, athletics department, or cafeteria. Families can complete the application for free and reduced price lunch through School Pay, and families who receive free or reduced price lunch can also print their determination letter, which can be used to receive discounts at museums, MTC, and more!

Visit the CPA website to learn more and get started!

HS Students: join TRIO ETS!

Attention high school students! Do you want help with finding the right college for you, visiting campuses, and applying for admission and scholarships? Check out TRIO ETS!

TRIO ETS is now recruiting CPA high school students who would like support with all things college. TRIO ETS works with students on Mondays and Tuesdays in the high school library during the school day. Stop by and see them to apply, or connect with our school counselor, Ms. Hall!

Ready, Set, FAFSA!

Free financial aid events are available to Minnesota students and families via Zoom. The series, running on Tuesday evenings, September 27 through October 25, is intended for current high school students and will cover general information about the college application and financial aid process, details on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the Minnesota Dream Act for undocumented students, and other ways to pay for college.

All sessions will have interpretation in Spanish, Somali, and Hmong. Attendees can ask questions in the chat and have them answered during the event by financial aid experts. Students who attend any of the sessions will be entered into a drawing to win a $500 scholarship (one entry per session attended).

Space is limited so register soon!

These sessions are offered by the Minnesota Office of Higher Education, Minnesota Department of Education, ECMC The College Place and Minnesota Goes to College. For session dates, topics and to register: bit.ly/readysetfafsa. Contact tpribnow@ecmc.org with any questions.

UPDATE: Every Meal Weekend Meal Bags

CPA is partnering again this year with Every Meal to provide weekend meal bags for interested students/families. The Every Meal program is available to everyone, regardless of income. You can register by filling out this form or completing the paper application that was sent home with your child.

If you have any questions or need support, please contact the social work team.

Attention CPA Families!

It is important that all CPA families compete the Application for Educational Benefits Packet so that CPA receives support and resources for all students, and so that individual families have access to community programs, including free and reduced price lunches.

If you haven't already done so, please complete the application as soon as possible. If you prefer a paper copy, please contact the CPA office.

CPA is Now Enrolling!

CPA is still accepting enrollment applications for the 2022-2023 school year. We have openings in Kindergarten and 5th Grade.

If you have any family or friends who are looking to join a new school community, please encourage them to apply and send them this link! Thanks for your support.
