Traditions of our Faith - Sharing our Faith
Outside of the time we spent with him at church, he continued to pass on the traditions of our faith. One way was to share a devotion each morning at the breakfast table. As parents, we all struggle to balance responsibilities and juggle schedules. Sometimes there just doesn't seem to be enough time to regularly share in a family devotion time. This weekend, Father Chuck shared a resource called Formed that all St. John Vianney parishioner and school families have free access to with resources you can use to help prepare your children for the Sunday liturgy and beyond.
Here's how to get started:
1) Go to https://formed.org
2) Click to Enter Code: 6X8KXX
3) Using your email address and a password, Create an Account
You should now be at the Formed home page. Each week you will see a 6-8 minute video on the upcoming Sunday readings. Click play and enjoy it with your family. Next to the play button, you will see a guide button. This is a complete family guide to the Sunday readings. Ten to fifteen minutes, once a week is a great start to building a lifetime habit of reading and praying through Scripture!
There is also a free app you can download if you would prefer to access Formed on your phone or tablet.

Parent Volunteer Hours for 2018/2019
The 10 Parent Fundraising volunteer hours must be associated with the Jog-a-Thon, the new fall fundraiser that is yet to be named (think Burgers & Brew), or the Crab Feed. These hours will be directly reported to Mrs. Mendenhall by the committee chairperson/leader who asked for volunteer help. The Buy Out for Parent Fundraising hours is $600, due on or before 04/30/19.
The 20 General Parent volunteer hours can be earned volunteering in a wide variety of roles including chaperoning and driving on field trips, working at the Parish Festival, and coaching. The Buy Out for General Parent volunteer hours is $200, due on or before 04/30/19.
Volunteers are the backbone of any successful event!
To help eliminate the element of surprise and stress when volunteers do not fulfill their obligations, we are introducing The Penalty Box. Volunteers who cancel and do not find a replacement or simply do not show up at all will find themselves in The Penalty Box. There are two ways to get yourself out of The Penalty Box.
1) Work double the hours missed in the same category that you missed (general or fundraising) to receive credit as if you had worked the shift you were singed up for.
2) Pay a fine.
- General Parent Hours are fined at a rate of $20/hr.
- Fundraising Parent Hours are fined at a rate of $60/hr.
- Once the fine is paid, you will receive credit as if you had worked the shift you were signed up for.
Parent Volunteers are the HEART of the SJV School Community
With our modest tuition rates, the SJV model of parents partnering with the school is critical to our long term success. I know there are other private schools with higher tuition rates that demand less parent participation, but as a Catholic school, our sense of community as members of the Body of Christ set us apart.
One of the Five Essential Marks of Catholic schools is that they are "animated by communion and community. "The school is a community - a community of persons and, even more to the point, 'a genuine community of faith.' Such an emphasis proposes an alternative model for Catholic schools to that of an individualistic society."
