Planned Lockdown Drill
Each year we conduct two lockdown drills. Our planned drill for the fall had to be postponed and has been rescheduled for Thursday, January 26th. Below are details related to the drill.
Lakeridge Middle School will be conducting a lockdown Drill on Thursday, January 26th.
State law requires we conduct two lockdown drills each year. Our goal in planning for this
important safety drill is to minimize the disruption to classroom learning and avoid creating
undue concern, while simultaneously providing practice for staff, students, visitors, and
volunteers. In the event of an emergency, the safety of our students, staff, and visitors is our
highest priority.
A Lockdown is initiated when there is a threat inside the building. A lockdown secures students,
staff, and volunteers within classrooms while leaving entrances open for emergency personnel
and law enforcement to clear the building.
Consistent with district practice, we will be conducting this drill with the assistance of the LOPD. Afterward, we will spend time assessing how well we executed procedures and where we can improve our practices. If you are interested in learning more about our lockdown procedures, visit the Safety and Security department page located on the LOSD Website.
This drill can be highly stressful for some kids. We are sensitive to this fact and do everything
possible to minimize the potential stress this drill may induce. However, if you believe the drill
may be too much for your child, Lakeridge Middle School is offering a less intense Lockdown
drill with a seminar format. If you believe your child would benefit from the
less intense Lockdown drill format, please fill out the form attached to the link below.
The safety of our children is our most important priority and we care deeply that each child
feels safe at school.

Lake Monsters Robotics Loch Ness Codeathon
The Lake Monsters Robotics team is hosting the Loch Ness Codeathon for elementary and middle school students with strong encouragement for students who identify with being female, gender minorities, and/or LGBTQIA+ to attend. The Codeathon is a weekend-long coding event where students learn how to code and complete programming challenges for prizes. This is the third time the Codeathon is being hosted. The Loch Ness Codeathon is an excellent opportunity for students new to programming to try out a new field of study and make connections with other like-minded peers.

ART LITERACY AT LMS IS UNDERWAY!
We need many volunteers to bring this beloved program to LMS. Lessons support the Social Studies curriculum and are presented in Social Studies classes throughout the year. Ask your students what projects they have already completed. The beautiful artwork created from this program is on display in the LMS hallways and eventually will come home with your student.
Current Unit: 8th Grade Westward Expansion
This week we start a unit for 8th graders on Western and Native American Art. Nurse Notes
What services does your school nurse provide?
School Nursing by Definition:
School nursing, a specialized practice of nursing, protects and promotes student health, facilitates optimal development, and advances academic success. School nurses, grounded in ethical and evidence-based practice, are the leaders who bridge health care and education, provide care coordination, advocate for quality student-centered care, and collaborate to design systems that allow individuals and communities to develop their full potential. (Adopted by the NASN Board of Directors February 2017.)
Some of the services provided by your school nurses:
Provide first aid care and health assessment;
Write care plans and coordinate the care of students with chronic or acute health conditions;
Communicate with teachers and staff to ensure the safety and well-being of students;
Administer medications and monitor delegated medication administration;
Assist in the evaluation of students for Special Services (Special Education);
Coordinate and provide vision screenings and vaccination clinics;
Track and monitor immunizations and dental care and;
Educate and train staff on: asthma, life threatening allergies, diabetes, and blood borne pathogens.
If you would like to speak to your school nurse, click the link below for contact information.
New Application for School Volunteers
For the safety of children, volunteers are required to have an approved background check when volunteering in schools.
To help streamline compliance with state and school board policies, which require that all volunteers have background checks and knowledge of other board policies -- as well as state-mandated proof of vaccination (or a qualified exemption) -- we are introducing a new all-in-one volunteer application and approval process through ou Raptor Visitor Management System.
Submitting an online application initiates the background check process. Once submitted, applicants will receive an email upon approval of your background check and you will be given access through the onsite Raptor System at all schools. Please allow up to three weeks to process your approval.
Volunteers need to submit only one application for volunteering in all LOSD schools. Applications need to be submitted annually to capture changes in background checks, policies, and/or vaccination requirements.
Volunteer Application for LOSD
Thank you for applying promptly, and for your service to our students and schools. We are grateful for our volunteers.
Update on Lunch Cash Sales Procedure
Starting January 2023, cash will only be accepted in the school kitchen for student meal account deposits. Cash will no longer be accepted for snack line sales. Checks and online SchoolCafe deposits will continue as they are now.
Set up Meal Accounts
Serving New Developments for School Meals
The universal free meals waiver with USDA expired on June 30, 2022. That means starting this school year LOSD will be serving meals under the free, reduced, and paid categories.
We are able to provide free meals to more families using the Oregon Expanded Income Guidelines (EIG) this year. A family of four making $83,250 annually can now qualify for free meals compared to the USDA standard of $36,075. To set up your student's meal account or apply for free/reduced meals look for Meals under Find it Fast on district and school website homepages.
We are speeding up the lunch lines with new pinned/scanners at the point of sale (POS). Students can scan their ID barcode at the POS making it easy and fast to go through the lunch line. They can also use the pin-pad in case they forget or lose their ID badge.
- Secondary students can have the option of using the barcode on their Student ID card. They can also take a picture of it with their phone and use that picture at the POS. This is up to each school if they want to allow students to use their phones for this.
- Elementary students will be given a meal ID badge left in the classroom and used only when getting lunch.
Fee Waivers
Requests for resident fee waivers or fee reductions, except for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), will be processed using the attached form. Please complete the form and submit it to the department or school which collects the applicable fee or fees.

Safe Oregon
Parents-guardians who have concerns about a student’s well-being are encouraged to reach out to their principal, and to maintain strong lines of communication and partnership between students, families, staff, and other resources. SafeOregon is also an effective way to report a tip regarding safety threats or potential acts of violence to our students or schools. Students should also be aware that intentionally providing a false report is a serious offense. https://www.safeoregon.com/
In addition, below are reporting methods for parents-guardians or students to use to report issues related to racist, bias, or harassment incidents.
