Charles Goes Abroad

Atelier Favela - Nicaragua

Voluteering in Nicaragua

My name is Charles Solomon and I am a proud Indigenous Monaro man.

I am planning to go abroad in March 2013 to the country of Nicaragua
to volunteer in a school that supports poverty-stricken children.

"Atelier Favela in Nicaragua is a humanitarian organisation that supports the poverty-stricken children of Ticuantepe Nicaragua. Through lessons in Arts, Music, Dance, Theatre, Circus and Capoeira at our cultural centre we hope to stimulate personal development in our students. In this way these children can grow up to become independent adults with a future in the arts or whatever their passion may be.

Even (young) adults are welcome in our Atelier Favela. They learn how to make hand made products that can be sold, giving them have an honest opportunity to build on their future."

I see myself as a very lucky person to live in a country that has given me an outstanding array of simple things that has made my life so much easier. So now, I feel that it is my time to give back to the world.

I am raising money for my trip to Nicaragua, this will go toward flights, living expenses (food and accommodation) and hopefully a computer I can use to share and teach the kids with.

Hopefully I can raise more than my quoter, because anything additional will go straight toward Atelier Favela. I would like to raise money for Atelier Favela because they have given me this wonderful opportunity for me to come and teach these kids some wonderful skills such as: Multimedia/Graphic Design, Sports, Landscaping and Art just to name a few.

In addition I would like to teach them about my own culture. What I have learned from my people and my family is something that I am very proud of. So in saying that, I am going to create some books for the young Children of Nicaragua. These books will have some traditional Indigenous Dreamtime stories for the kids to experience our wonderful culture.

If you would like to donate or contribute please email me or phone me and I will be happy to provide you with the details.
