November - Month in Review - Technology Showcase
Tech at FPWHS
Every student on both campuses have a laptop to use for educational purposes that they have from August to June. Each teacher is trained to enhance their curriculum through technology. Students are using their laptops in all courses from Physical Education to AICE courses.
The 1:1 access affords FPWHS flexibility in technology course offerings because we are not hindered by static computer labs that only seat a specific number of students. We are one of two high schools that offer this to our students in St. Lucie County.

STEM and CTE Alignment
STEM and CTE Alignment
Career and Technical Education is an important part of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) educational goals established by the Department of Education.
CTE is a catalyst for STEM education. We know there are unfilled STEM jobs and the gap for students in STEM fields is widening.
Often times when individuals think about STEM, they think of scientists and engineers which is right target. However, what doesn’t come to mind are the numerous high wage, high skilled, high demand careers that for which CTE is preparing students.
The magic of CTE is the definition of STEM not just Science or Technology, Engineering or Math but the integration of two or more of these topics in the context that students are passionate about. Without the combination of two or more of the STEM components you are not teaching STEM. That is why CTE is a perfect fit for STEM education.

STEAM advocate Biography of the Month - Brendan Hanlon
The zSpace bus visits FPWHS and classes were able to get some hands on experience.
zSpace combines elements of virtual and augmented reality in a computer. zSpace allows people to interact with simulated objects in virtual environments as if they are real. Often when individuals think of STEAM, science and engineering are on the forefront; however, there are innovating careers with high wages, high skilled, high demand jobs seeking students to broaden their career paths in life that fall under the STEAM umbrella that interest all students. Exposure to all technologies we currently have access to is the key to building skills for jobs that do not yet exist.

We've been working on strategies that kids up, moving, and discussing critical content. Yesterday, she used a strategy where the students (1) walk around the room while music is played, (2) stop and find a partner when the music stops, (3) trade worksheets, (4) complete a problem on the other student's worksheet, (5) trade worksheets back, (6) check the work, (7) coach the other student on potential errors or congratulate on a job well done, and (8) stand back to back to indicate that they're finished, (9) start the music again and then repeat the cycle.
100% Student engagement and it's fun!!!

Garber Buick GMC Test Drive
On Saturday November 3, Fort Pierce Westwood High School hosted a test drive event that raised a $10,000 donation for the school. Thank you to everyone in the community that came out to test drive a new Buick and help FPWHS receive the maximum donation.
