Penngrove Press
July 27th, 2022
Thank you for a WONDERFUL first few days back to school! It has been such a joy to see these kids playing, learning and being awkward, brave and kind on campus each day.
I also want to praise all our families for your efforts to help keep the drop off and pick up situation here at Penngrove as safe as possible. We have nearly 500 students, so that is a lot of important people to make sure we keep safe! Please remember, the upper lot on the West end of campus is for staff only. You MUST have a pass displayed in the window of your car to be admitted into that lot (staff, handicap or drive through drop off pass winners). If you are walking through that lot onto campus, please stay on the path to the left of the driveway so we know you are safe. If you drop your student off in the family lot, students can get out as soon as you pull up to the yellow curb in order to expedite the process.
ALL families- please do not come up the rainbow stairs until you can be led up by Mrs. Hubacker at 7:55. While families are welcome on campus beginning at 8am, we need to keep families off campus until we have active supervision at 8am.
We will be doing Penngrove in Motion on Mondays and Fridays on the black top at 8:20, beginning on August 1st. Please join us to bust a move and wake up our brains and bodies in the morning! Movement required!
We are changing up our reward systems just a bit this year. Ask your student to tell you what's new! (Hint: new PAW awards and new prize system!)
Stay awkward, brave and kind Panthers!

Question of the week from Principal Harp
Each week, I will be sending out a question with which you will be given the opportunity to engage in a new conversation with your child. We all know how hard it is to draw out responses other than, "nothing" or "fine" when we ask "What did you do today?" or "How was school?" Be sure to use open ended follow-up questions and statements such as "Tell me more about that!" or "What did you think of that?" Please ask your student(s) the question below, share their response with us and make our day! You can submit more than one response! (No need to put names or identifying words.)
Click the above image to answer this week's question!
Tell me the best thing about your new teacher or classroom!

The Petaluma Sunrise Rotary Club is reaching out to schools in the Petaluma area who have participated in our Dictionary Project program for third graders. We are trying to gauge the effectiveness of the program as well as the interest in continuing the project in the future.
We would really appreciate you taking this brief survey. The results will guide our efforts of funding literacy programs in Petaluma.

Welcome back to garden Panthers! I am SO excited to get out in the garden with the students and to get our awesome improved raised beds planted with a Fall garden. We put in some hard work over the summer and I’d like to thank all the families who showed up and a big extra thank you to the Reed family who came to all three workdays! I really appreciate all the volunteers time, great ideas and hard work. The garden is looking amazing and I believe we will be growing a lot more food as a result!
Garden class stars August 1st and we will be focusing on all things butterfly for the month. I am so excited to share the magic of caring for swallowtail caterpillars and watching them transform into beautiful butterflies with the students. We will also be moving soil (Thanks to the Sundberg family for facilitating and dropping a soil donation from our partners at Grab N’ Grow) and getting our gardens planted as well as celebrating the beginning of the harvest with tastings from the garden.
Please sign up here to be a volunteer in your students class! Or reach out to me at aortiz@petk12.org for other volunteer opportunities.
Sixth grade class is excited to get started on their class project out in the garden stay tuned for more updates on that. It makes me so happy when students come visit me in the garden with ideas and excitement for their outdoor learning space and I am grateful to get to be the Garden Coordinator!!
Here are some pictures of the work we did over the summer, but feel free to walk up and see for yourself! I am in the garden Monday, Thursday and Friday and love visitors!
