Social-Emotional Learning
This month of October is Bullying Prevention, Managing Emotions and Feelings Buddies Self-Regulation. This month I will be pushing into the classrooms and working on these issues specifically to assist our students with these important Social Emotional Learning skills. These skills will be practiced at school in the classrooms and at home too with your assistance to our students. We will learn and practice non-bullying techniques as well as identifying and processing our emotions using our words and avoiding physical aggressive behaviors at home and school. In addition, we will be celebrating our Fall Festivals, and I hope everyone practices safety for themselves and their students within the East Chicago Community.
Thank you,
Mr. Gonzalez MSW,LSW.
Additional Information
- Fall Harvest Party- Students will participate in a classroom Fall Harvest party on Friday, October 29th. Students may wear costumes to class this day. Please select something that will not frighten other children and please see all weapons and accessories at home. Also, please make sure your child is able to easily able to take off their costume to use the restroom. Anyone who would like to bring non-editable items (small toys) to share with their classmates can, but it is not required.
- Jackets/Coats- Please make sure your child has appropriate outdoor outerwear. Spending quality time outside is so important to a child’s development. We are required to go outside daily when the weather is 25 degrees or above.
- Eating a nutritious breakfast and lunch is important. If you send a lunch to school with your child, please make sure it is a healthy lunch. Choose options for meals, beverages, and snacks that have limited added sugars, saturated fat, and sodium. Sending only chips, candy, treats, etc. is not considered a healthy lunch.
- Students are required to wear uniforms for School picture day on Wednesday, October 13th. We will offer spring pictures where students will not have to wear uniforms.
- Your child is being assessed all year using the ISPROUT (Indiana Student Performance Readiness and Observation of Understanding Tool) assessment. Students are observed to determine ratings for 28 SKB's (skills, knowledge, or behaviors). Your child's teacher will have a report for the first quarter soon. Please see the attached SKB overview.
