Mrs. McGeorge's Super Second Grade
Week of February 15, 2016
What We're Learning...
This week, we are discussing research. We will use different resources to gather information about a person as a class. We will use a graphic organize to collect our information, and then we will create a book together about our subject. This week, and part of next, will be spent on this whole-group project. Next week, students will be divided into groups to research other individuals in small groups and create a project to share (all of this will be done in class time).
We are wrapping up comparing numbers at the start of this week, and then we are learning new strategies for adding and subtracting two- and three-digit numbers. We will spend weeks on this topic, learning how to draw hundreds, tens, and ones to add or subtract; breaking one number apart to help; using number lines and hundreds charts; and eventually, learning the algorithm method (adding or subtracting numbers vertically, probably the way parents learned when they were kids!).
