MYP update of the week
In the midst of election season, students are preparing to participate in the democratic process in Foundations classes to elect Student Council representatives. We are looking for students who are good communicators so that they can represent their Foundations class and share news with their peers. We need students who are open-minded and willing to listen to others' ideas. We want our representatives to be thinkers who can creatively tackle the projects that the council undertakes this year. Check in with your student about how they are preparing to choose their representative and how that mirrors the decisions that adults make when they vote in local and national elections.
This week at Ramsey
Ms. Ludwig's Genius Hour A/B classes are working on a typing unit to build fluency with logins, website navigation, time management and tracking individual progress. Students are resisting the urge to look at their hands, competing on a leaderboard for the highest WPM and accuracy scores. Unit 2 will start mid-October and we will be learning about the Fundamentals of Block Coding before moving on to Unit 3: Creating A Video Game.
In Ms. Fontana's ELA Workshop 7 class, students have practiced finding textual evidence to support a theory about a character in their independent reading book. Students are reading 20 minutes/night, 100 minutes/week for homework and recording that on their homework reading log bookmarks, which are due on Fridays.
Students in ELA 6 with Ms. Sawyer Beach have been reading like crazy! Students have learned how to stop and think and stop and jot while they read, how to assess their readers' notebooks before conferences, and how to follow a story arc. Students are also being recognize for their awesome IB Learner Profile traits like Reflective, Open Minded, Caring, and Knowledgeable. They are starting their 2nd weekly homework reading bookmark so let's help 6th graders remember to read 20 minutes each night or 100 minutes total each week.
