Help support the new AMMS Virtual Reality Lab by donating USED iPhones!
Imagine exploring the Eiffel Tower right from your very own desk in French class or experience walking on the moon in your science class. Virtual Reality allows students to explore far off places without ever leaving the classroom.
AMMS Instructional Technology is working to build a Virtual Reality Lab to provide these experiences for all Autrey Mill students. Through your donations, you will be providing our students at AMMS with cutting edge opportunities and preparing our students for the jobs of tomorrow.
The request for Apple iPhone(s) will allow us to build the virtual lab and overcome compatibility restraints. Requesting USED iPhone 6, 6Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, or 7Plus. Apple iOS devices are able to seamlessly work with our system at Autrey MIll. Selecting iPhones offers an optimal experience for students to hone in on the virtual experience through the use of goggles that cannot be accomplished with iPads or laptop devices.
Check out the following website for more information!
Donations may be turned in to the school front office or to Mrs. Andrea Tseng-Rioux in the media center.

Class Updates
Social Studies
This week, we will continue our study of government and economics in Latin America. We began on Friday by starting a project where students will work in groups make stations to teach their fellow students about a specific country’s government. The countries we will be primarily studying, in order to compare them, are: Mexico, Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, and the United States. Students will be working on creating these stations Friday, Monday, and Tuesday, and will then rotate through the stations on Tuesday. The completed station will count as a quiz grade. On Thursday, we will review government terms and make sure students have gotten all the needed information.
The next day, Friday, we will start our study of economics. We will begin with a fun activity to help show the benefits of specialization. We will then learn about the Panama Canal and factors of production, as well as reviewing economics using the story The Little Red Hen. We will then begin a new project about the economics of Latin American countries, where students will work with their same groups to learn about the economy of their country, create a simple product from that country, and have a market day during which students will have to convert currency to buy goods. This project will also count for a quiz grade, and students will have multiple class days to work on it.
ELA
ELA is wrapping up our informational unit! We will continue to cover sentence structure, author’s purpose and perspective (RI6), and informational writing (W2). Our unit test is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 7.
Spanish
As students travel imaginatively with 8 ½ year old Isabela and her mother to Mexico, they are learning to describe people, places and activities of everyday life. Students are also learning to express opinions and compare cultures. Classroom activities include listening, reading, acting, reviewing videos, writing, drawing and playing games in Spanish. Every student is expected to practice at home for 15 minutes daily. This should include 5 minutes to review words in Quizlet, 5 minutes for listening to audio, and 5 minutes of writing. Thank you for your support from home.

(6.EE.7) The test over Unit 4, is scheduled for Thursday 2/1. (6.EE.5, 6.EE.6, 6.EE.7) Students should have their study guide to begin working on over the weekend which is due on Wednesday 1/31.
Next, we will be begin Unit 5 on Geometry. Students will begin by learning how to find the area of triangles, trapezoids, and irregular-shaped polygons. (6.G.1)
