20 years of Pride at Colleyville Heritage High School
2.17.17
Panthers,
What another great week at CHHS. We have seen our students continue to do great work and demonstrate PRIDE in everything they do. This time of year, a high school campus is filled full of excitement and energy. So many different students are competing and performing in different avenues with the addition to the culmination of some great learning that is taking place in the classroom. This past Monday night, I had the pleasure of listening to some of our choir students perform at a school board/city council meeting. To say that everyone in the room was left speechless would be an understatement. The amount of talent and hard work our students demonstrate will truly astonish you. If you get the chance to see our students perform, please take advantage of those opportunities.
Last night, I had the opportunity to watch and celebrate with our girls basketball team - they were victorious in their playoff game against Aledo. With this win, they are on to the 3rd round of the playoffs for the first time since 2007. We are looking forward to a continued playoff run as they will play again Tuesday night (the location and opponent have not been determined yet). These are just a couple of examples of PRIDE that are shining through daily at CHHS and make me so proud to work at CHHS. Have a great weekend and GO PANTHERS!!

Student Voice
The first thing I enjoy about Colleyville Heritage is the friends that I have made because of this large school. Going into 9th grade, I wasn't sure if I was going to make new friends from the other middle schools that feed into CHHS or if I was going to stay in my small social bubble of friends from my middle school. Luckily, I have been able to meet hundreds of new people that I have grown closer to and have made friendships with.
I also enjoy how pristine our school spirit is. I went to all of the school's pep rallies this year, and there was never a moment when I thought there was a lack of panther pride. We have a great reputation when it comes to sports and fine arts, so the entire school body has to keep that spirit and tradition going at all times. Panther Pride Never Dies!

PANCAKE BREAKFAST FOR TEACHERS
Can you donate items for our Feb. 20 Staff Appreciation Breakfast for teachers? It’s a Monday holiday for our kids, but our teachers will be in training all day Feb. 20, so PTSA is feeding them a pancake breakfast to start off the day. Big thanks go to The Original Pancake House, who will be donating the made-on-site pancakes, butter and syrup. PTSA will be purchasing Starbucks coffee, and is asking parents to help provide the “extras” like fruit, gluten-free muffins and cutlery. If you would like to donate items for this event, please sign up here (and share this link with your friends). Non-perishable items can be dropped at school in the front office by 4 p.m. Feb. 17. Perishable items either need to be dropped at school by 7:45 a.m.Monday, Feb. 20 or contact Jackie Turner at 817-718-3897 or jtmomof1@gmail.com to arrange pick up/drop off over that weekend.

ACCEPTED Wall
Exciting New Endeavor! CHHS PTSA is collaborating with CHHS AVID to create a space on our campus that will showcase the accomplishments of our CHHS seniors and where they have been accepted to college. It will be called an ACCEPTED Wall. The purpose of the ACCEPTED Wall is to highlight exceptional college campuses all over the United States and beyond, and to start a conversation about how and why to choose a school of higher learning.
Here is how students and parents can help:
1. We would like pennants from colleges that you visit. While you are on a tour, pick up a pennant to donate. They can be dropped at the CHHS office beginning Tuesday, January 17th .
2. When you receive acceptance confirmation and decide on a college, scan your letter and send it Dawn Treese at dawn@treese.org. These will be framed and hung on the ACCEPTED Wall.
Questions? Contact Dawn Treese at dawn@treese.org

CHHS PTSA
CHHS PTSA is updating our bylaws and standing rules. The changes to both documents can be found at http://www.chhsptsa.org. A summary of the changes are listed below. These changes will be voted on at the February general meeting. Please email Leslie Williams at parliamentarian@chhsptsa.org with any questions. Standing Rules 1. Change Board of Education/Legislative Liaison to ADVOCACY. (Strictly a title change--to put us more in alignment with what they are calling this position at council and state level) 2. Change "duties of vice presidents" to ADDITIONAL DUTIES OF OFFICERS, ADD Treasurer: Shall be in charge of developing and maintaining the annual budget. Shall be responsible for all deposits and disbursements. All checks written will require two signatures. 3. Scholarships: Add line that indicates No graduating senior parents will be allowed to serve on this selection committee. Bylaws PRESIDENT-ELECT
NEW in 2016 is the option to add President-Elect to your bylaws. Should a PTA choose to amend their bylaws to add this officer, the position would be available for election in spring of 2017.
When a President-Elect is included as an officer, the term limits for both President and President-Elect are limited to one year meaning they can not be re-elected to the same position. The President-Elect would serve as an aide to the President and chair meetings in the president’s absence, could have other duties, and would then automatically become President the following year.
The first year of implementing this change, the nominating committee would need to slate a President and a President-Elect but for all future years, only the President-Elect would be elected. When the members elect a President-Elect, they are also electing their future President.
President-Elect holds the same privileges as President in that they are an ex-officio member of every committee except the Nominating Committee and the Financial Reconciliation Committee.
GOOGLE DOCS TRAINING
Are you in the dark about how to use GoogleDocs? You can learn what your kids already know about GoogleDocs that they use daily for homework and communicating with their teachers. CHHS PTSA is sponsoring an hour-long GoogleDocs training at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 2 in CHHS Lecture Hall. A GCISD instructional coach will walk parents through what you need to know to use GoogleDocs as well as your kids do. Bring your laptop for this free, hands-on training, so you can practice and ask questions as you learn. Please RSVP to president@chhsptsa.org for planning purposes. If you can’t attend a day-time training, but would be interested in the training, please email president@chhsptsa.org. If there is enough interest, PTSA will plan an evening event.
