Capstone Information Update

We have received our first vendor pricing update for next year. Capstone Bundle prices are the same, but pricing for individual database subscriptions have gone up. Capstone has greatly revised their PebbleGo databases, adding new bibliographic, country, holiday information, and professions to the service, while consulting with users and experts regarding inclusion and diversity. They are also 508 compliant. Capstone Interactive and PebbleGo also give you the ability to

  • purchase new Capstone Interactive titles during their two-for-one sale
  • download MARC records for Destiny, with links to the online interactive titles you own
  • turn off sounds in PebbleGo and link to your Capstone titles using the drop-down menu in the upper right-hand corner of the screen
  • get a copy and paste link for every page in PebbleGo
  • log in as an administrator to track PebbleGo usage, with downloadable reports
  • find PebbleGo articles related to Standards
  • link through SSO so students and teachers are already logged in to your site

Please make sure to show your elementary curriculum coordinator Capstone's video presentation on Capstone Connect, designed for teachers to be able to search both on standards and topic and get results from PebbleGo articles, thematic eBook bundles and instructional materials, providing over 6,000 resources all aligned and delivered from their search. Pricing depends on current PebbleGo subscriptions and Capstone Interactive eBooks owned. You can also subscribe to PebbleGo Create where students can choose use text, drawing, audio, video, images (38,000 images included), and more to create their own Buncee, an intuitive digital workspace for students to demonstrate learning and share their knowledge using PebbleGo. By pairing student-centered active learning with engaging curriculum-connected content, students can retain essential concepts that are core for academic success.

For more information, pricing and order forms (password is the same as last year with the year updated), please see our website at https://guides.rilink.org/home/capstone. RILINK's Executive Director Leaving

Dorothy Frechette is resigning her position as RILINK's Executive Director effective at the end of the Summer Conference this year. She will continue to be available to help with any student update issues through the end of October. During her 22-year tenure, RILINK has grown from 14 to 209 members, going from a small server in the public library consortium office to Follett-hosted for individual sites and districts, adding database subscriptions and discounts as well a shared eBook and digital audiobook collection along the way. With the move to Follett-hosted, districts and individual schools can use Single Sign-On (SSO) for their students and teachers to access library resources. RILINK's new shared eBook and audiobook collection RISOCKS is housed with OverDrive and recently added simultaneous user online magazines to the items available.

If you are interested in becoming RILINK's next Executive Director, please see the Job Description at https://guides.rilink.org/apply to begin the application process.

Destiny Tips

Looking for Additional sources for MARC records when you are adding titles to your catalog?

When you are using the Add Title function you have access to the Follett Alliance database and a Library of Congress database that the Follett transition team set up for each site. If you are having trouble finding matching MARC records for the books you are cataloging, you may want to add some additional resources. Please see "Cataloging/ Additional Sources for MARC" Records on our website at https://guides.rilink.org/beyond_help/cataloging. Please note that adding these additional resources only needs to be done at one school in a district. Once a resource has been added a one site in the district, it will be available to all other sites in the district. In testing this process, the additional resources have already been added to a few districts/sites.

Want to use Back Office functions that are not available in Destiny Discover?

To add Learning Resources that link directly to Advanced Search and Resource Lists that have 100 or more items or provide a direct link to your WebPath Express subscription see "Adding Links" at https://guides.rilink.org/beyond_help/links.

Additional Spanish Resources

Are you looking for additional resources for ELL students or students learning Spanish? AskRI.org is providing two WorldBook databases - Enciclopedia Estudiantil Hallazgos for elementary and middle school students and Banco de contenidos aulaPlaneta for high school students and adults. Find buttons and URLs to add these as Learning Resources in Destiny Discover or links on your LibGuides site at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1U-3ThyiAibLw83tquCAGcdPRScVXlhk7YV2h3hknzsY/edit?usp=sharing.

We Are ALL Readers

We Are ALL Readers is a week-long festival of diverse children’s books, created by local public and school libraries, children’s book authors and illustrators, and local community organizations.

This celebration of diverse books takes place at sites throughout the West Bay and southern Rhode Island starting April 4 and culminating in a free, public, in-person book celebration on April 9.

Summer Reading 2022

If it is March can Summer Reading be far away? Please send updates for the Summer Reading guide to Jackie Lamoureux. If you're suggesting new ideas to your school or district, take a look at what others have done in the past. Did your school celebrate summer reading last year? We are also collecting ideas for ways to acknowledge students who read over the summer. Send those to Jackie, too.

Summer Conference 2022

  • The conference will be virtual both days.
  • The keynote will be announced in April.
  • Requests for Proposals for sessions will go out in April as well.

Please contact Sharon if you have any questions.
