Early Release/Teacher Collaboration Information
The Beaverton School District has communicated with many local child care providers, after school programs and businesses regarding the new school schedule. Please contact your afterschool care provider to ensure they are aware of the change. Consider scheduling your child’s doctor, dentist, or other appointments on Wednesday afternoons to minimize missing valuable class time.
Beginning in September 2017, dismissal times will be (subject to change as new schools and bus routes are added):
• Elementary schools that start at 8:00 a.m. will dismiss at 1:05 p.m.
• Elementary schools that start at 8:30 a.m. will dismiss at 1:35 p.m.
• Schools housed at Timberland during rebuilds will dismiss at 2:25 p.m.
• Middle schools will dismiss at 2:10 p.m.
• High schools will dismiss at 1:00 p.m.
The Early Release/Teacher Collaboration webpage has a wealth of information including animated videos explaining the change and an updated Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).
Spotlight on : AVID Tutors
• How long have you been an AVID tutor? This is my second year. I enjoyed it so much that I volunteered at a second school midway last year
• What inspired you to become an AVID tutor? Recommendation from a friend
• What do you like the most about tutoring AVID students? Two things: I love seeing that “light bulb” moment when the presenter of the tutorial actually “gets it!” and second when the students sitting around the table get on board and actually have to contain their enthusiasm into forming questions instead of answers to guide the presenter to figure out the answer for herself/himself!
• What would you tell someone who's thinking about becoming an AVID tutor? Patience and enthusiasm is a must
Thank you ART LITERACY VOLUNTEERS!
Thank you to the volunteers who signed up for Art Lit! We appreciate your time and dedication to art literacy and to our school, and are so glad to have your children back in school after the crazy weather we have been having! As you are aware, there has been a big loss of instructional time impacting our students learning in both elective and core classes. In addition, there are some challenges with scheduling art literacy and meeting the instructional needs of our students in core and elective classes. For these reasons, art lit times needed to be changed, and will be delivered during our advisory periods on the following dates:
Jan. 31- 9:05-9:30 8th grade art lit assembly and Feb. 1-9:05-9:30 Art Lit project- 8th grade (12 volunteers)
Feb. 7th-9:05-9:30 6th/7th art lit assembly and Feb. 8-9:05-9:30 Art Lit project- (18 volunteers)
We still need volunteers for those two dates. Please contact Angela Redmon <angelaredmon@gmail.com> to volunteer.
