NAESP: Report to Parents - COVID 19: Help Children Continue Learning
Central Bucks School District and Gayman Elementary School teachers and staff are doing our very best to be able to deliver effective instruction under the school shut-down orders. Our shared goal is to look for ways to make learning engaging and rigorous, while keeping children's emotional needs in mind. In this issue, NAESP's: Report to Parents shares ideas to keep engaging your children outside of the daily school work requirements. Please review their article, COVID-19: Help Children Continue Learning to supplement this experience.
"Many schools are offering lessons online (virtual learning). Review assignments from the school, and help your child establish a reasonable pace for completing the work. You may need to assist your child with turning on devices, reading instructions, and typing answers."

Middle School Orientation
Wednesday, May 27th would have been our "in-person" middle school orientation for students. While this will not be happening, our fellow administrators, teachers, and counselors at Tohickon Middle School have a special surprise for our sixth grade students. Please look for an email Wednesday morning around 9:00AM.
Congratulations future Golden Eagles!
Student Supply Pick Up
This week, we will distribute personal student supplies. These are items in your child's desk or student work on display in the classroom. To ensure that families with multiple children will only need to come to school once, distribution will occur by child's last name.
Wednesday, May 27th:
- Last names A-E: 9:00AM-11:30AM
- Last names F-K: 12:30PM-3:00PM
Thursday, May 28th:
- Last names L-P: 9:00AM-11:30AM
- Last names R-Z: 12:30PM-3:00PM
** If this time slot does not work for your family, please reach out to Mrs. Debbie Schieber (dschieber@cbsd.org) to make alternative arrangements. We are offering the morning of Friday, May 29th as a flex-day for item retrieval.
When you arrive at school, please do the following:
- Enter through the car rider entrance on Burnt House Hill Road.
- Display a piece of paper with your child(ren)'s last name on the dashboard of your car.
- Follow the loop around the parking lot to the Old Main Entrance doors. Gayman staff members will direct traffic.
- You will park at an orange numbered cone: #1, #2, or #3.
- Stay in your car and remotely open your trunk, or lower a backseat window.
- The supplies will be placed in your car. You may exit onto Burnt House Hill Road.
Please note: to safely drive the loop around the parking lot, the Point Pleasant Pike entrance/exit will be closed. If you are scheduled to pick up medication on Tuesday, May 26th, we will deliver student supplies to your family then.
As always, thank you for patience in this process.

Field Day 2020
Introducing... "Virtual Field Day" event 2020!
We are grateful to have a variety of resources from "OPEN," a national physical education organization dedicated to support physical education programs around the globe to host this day. While field day in the past has been a competitive day in nature, this school year, we will not be keeping score. Our goal this school year is to provide family fun events to celebrate the enjoyment of physical activity and the end of the school year.
On Friday, June 5th, students from all 15 elementary schools will have the opportunity to participate in the events of their choosing. We encourage students and family members to wear their school colors/school spirit wear for the events. All are welcome to share field day photos and videos from the event through their physical education Seesaw or email photos directly to Mrs. Carter at kcarter@cbsd.org or Mr. Foster at dfoster@cbsd.org.
Again, field day events will be posted in your child’s physical education Seesaw account on June 1st. We hope you can use this opportunity as a fun and meaningful way to be physically active together. Best of luck and have fun!
Sixth Grade Promotion
Gayman Elementary School's 6th Grade Promotion will take place on Wednesday, June 10th at 7:00PM in an online format. All 6th grade families will receive an email from Mrs. Carter with a link to the event. During our promotion ceremony, students will be individually recognized. Immediately following the presentation, we invite you to continue celebrating with two special videos. Those video links will be sent at 7:30PM. So, sit back, pop popcorn, and enjoy this special night!
Note: if you cannot attend the online promotion event, the ceremony will be recorded. We are so proud of our sixth grade students!
Sixth Grade End of the Year Video
As we’re wrapping up the year, we want to continue the end-of-year traditions including, a retrospective slideshow. This slideshow includes pictures from field trips, school events, and special memories from kindergarten through sixth grade. This entails each family sending in pictures over the years, and one person (or a team) compiling them into a video.
If you are interested, please reach out to Debbie Schieber @ DSCHIEBER@CBSD.ORG. Once we have a few names, we will set up a virtual meeting to plan.

Last Day of School
The last day of the 2019-2020 school year is Monday, June 15th. The district calendar has not changed and Monday, June 15th will still remain a scheduled half-day.
Thank You!

CBSD Farmers Market
The CBSD Farmers Market is open every Wednesdays at 4:00 at Barclay Elementary School. We believe that in a community as well resourced as ours, no child should ever be hungry. If you find yourself in need, please stop by.
If you find yourself in a position of giving, consider supporting this initiative. Please help us share food with families and children throughout the Central Bucks School District during this crisis! Click HERE to support our Go Fund Me. Thank you for your generosity!
CB Cares and CBSD Present an Online Parent Positive Event - Watch On-Demand May 15-May 29
Access the event ON-DEMAND at:
https://www.bigmarker.com/screenagers-starhouse/SCREENAGERS-NC-STREAM-Central-Bucks-School-District
With COVID-19 giving many of us downtime at home with our families, we invite the Central Bucks community to take this opportunity to watch SCREENAGERS NEXT CHAPTER: Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience. Filmmaker and physician Dr. Delaney Ruston takes the conversation around screens and teens to the next level with Screenagers Next Chapter—a film that examines the science behind teen’s emotional challenges, the interplay of social media, and most importantly, what can be done in our schools and homes to help them build crucial skills to navigate stress, anxiety, and depression in our digital age.
We witness Delaney as she finds her way from ineffective parenting to much-improved strategies. We follow other personal stories of families from an array of backgrounds with a spectrum of emotional challenges. We also observe approaches in schools that provide strategies relevant beyond the classroom setting. Interwoven into the stories are surprising insights from brain researchers, psychologists, and thought leaders that reveal evidence-based ways to support mental wellness among our youth. The impact of social media and other screen time is incorporated in all the topics raised in Screenagers NEXT CHAPTER, how it may be impacting our teens’ mental health, and what we can do to help foster youth in the face of struggles
