Government funds large transportation project!
The Central Pacific Railroad laid the east tracks and the Union Pacific Railroad laid the west under contract from the federal government.
By 1877 it is projected that the railroads will be able to carry goods and passengers. George Westinghouse has now developed new and improved air brakes that will be put in use for passenger trains.
Trains improving life!
The new system of railway will improve the transportation of goods across the United States with higher speed, greater quantities, and cheaper products. This is seen to lower the cost of consumer products.
