Principal's Message
Monday morning I found myself chasing a sunrise and witnessed the brilliant colors painting a backdrop for our portable classrooms. It reminded me of a morning several years ago with a similarly spectacular sunrise and vibrant rainbow. Drivers dropping off students, staff, and students stopped during the morning rush to just take in the sight. For a few moments, we were united in the experience. Years from now, when we look back at this school year we may feel similarly. Sunrises fill me with a sense of hope. Although for now we will continue to teach and learn physically apart from one another, I look forward when ISB can gather again as a community. Until then, I appreciate the energy and dedication our students, families, and staff are showing in distance learning. Keep up the great work!
Warmly,
Jill O'Neill

ISB Senior Receives Full Four-Year Scholarship Through QuestBridge
The International School of Beaverton is thrilled to announce that Mariam Jallow received a full four-year scholarship to Columbia University through the QuestBridge National College Match. Congratulations Mariam!
Match Scholarship Recipients are admitted early to QuestBridge college partners with full four year scholarships that are provided by the colleges and universities, ensuring for these students and their families that an education at a top college can be affordable. QuestBridge’s 42 college partners include top liberal arts colleges such as Amherst, Pomona, and Williams and exceptional research universities such as Columbia, Duke, University of Chicago, Stanford, and Yale. The Match Scholarship is offered as part of a generous financial aid package provided by the college that covers the full cost of attendance, including tuition, room and board, books and supplies, and travel expenses.
ISB Sculpture Project Funded
This will provide our Sculpture students with a set of supplies at home to continue their creativity and learning this year. Our 9th and 10th graders will now have the same supplies at home that they would normally have in the art classroom.
Purchase Your Yearbook Today!
Your ISB Dragon yearbook team is in the process of producing a fantastic yearbook full of wonderful memories for your child to cherish. We are set to publish only 300 copies of our hard bound, 80+ colored page book this year (down from the usual 500), so make sure to purchase your copy ASAP! Purchase before winter break for only $35! Yearbooks will run for $40 after winter break.
Cold Weather Doesn’t Mean You Need to Stay Inside
With the change in weather it can be tempting to stay indoors. We know that our kids need to move every day and the extensive associated benefits of physical exercise. Here are some tips to help you build healthy (and fun!) habits into the remote school day:
- Start your day by taking a walk or a bike ride. Do you still travel to a different location for school? Then make that trip an active one! Too far to walk? Try parking halfway and walking the rest. Commit to walking or biking 2 days a week and start building those healthy habits.
- Take movement breaks in between classes or at lunch time. A brisk walk around the block will get your heart pumping and re-energize you for the rest of your day.
- Need to pick up your library holds or free lunch? Bike over to your pickup location and reap the benefits of an active trip while checking off your to-do list.
Library Books Available for Checkout
Looking for a good book? Students can browse the ISB library collection online, check out a book, and pick it up curbside.
Watch this video to learn how to place a hold for a book in Destiny, the ISB library book catalog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dI4j9c_Tac&t=2s

Math Tutoring
Need help in math? Here are two possible resources:
ISB's Math Honor Society is hosting Math Tutoring sessions every Wednesday from 12-1 pm (on school days only). Students can find the Zoom link and password in their grade level Canvas Course. Please do not share the link with anyone outside of the ISB community.
Monday-Thursday from 5-6 pm, Western Oregon University's Math Education students are staffing a daily math homework help session for students in Grades 4-12. Each session will have at least two tutors available and on Tuesdays a Spanish-speaking tutor will be available. All sessions are recorded to protect both WOU and 4-12 grade students. WOU expects that all students are supervised by an adult during the tutoring sessions. Questions? Contact WOU's Dr. Rachel Harrington at harringtonr@wou.edu or 503-838-8831.
