EHS Athletic Department Update

"Home of the Eagles"

April 4, 2016

As much as Mother Nature was being kind to us in the first few weeks of the Spring season, she now has taken a nasty turn and decided to turn cold and rainy recently. The weather is playing havoc with our schedules right now and causing us to make daily changes for the most part. I cannot emphasize enough that if you have a son or daughter involved with a Spring Sport that you are continually checking Schedule Star for the cancellations and rescheduled contests during this Spring. Once on Schedule Star you can sign up to receive e-mails anytime a change in the schedule occurs with the team you are following. Below are some short summaries of how our teams have done so far and their schedules for the coming week.

Boys Baseball

Our Varsity and JV Baseball teams have gotten off to a very good start in the games that they have played to this point. The Varsity is currently undefeated at 3-0 and the JV's are 3-1. This week the schedule is that the Varsity will play Thursday, April 7th at Anthony Wayne (JV's at home), Friday, April 8th they will play at home versus Northwood (no JV) and Saturday, April 9th they will play a doubleheader at home versus Toledo Bowsher starting at 11am (JV's at Bowsher).

Girls Softball

Due to weather, our Girls Softball teams have not had the opportunity to play many games either. Currently the Varsity Softball team is 3-0 and the JV's are 2-1. This week's schedule has been indirectly affected by the weather already. The Varsity Softball game scheduled for Tuesday, April 5th has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict with Hopewell Loudon and the game will be made up at a later time. They then will play at home on Thursday, April 7th against North Baltimore (JV's at NB) and then they will play a doubleheader at Bryan on Saturday, April 9th starting at 1pm. This is a change from the original schedule which game one was supposed to start at 11am but it has been moved to 1pm because of the ACT test which is being taken this Saturday. There is no JV game this Saturday.

Boys/Girls Track

The Boys and Girls Track teams have gotten off to a great start this Spring so far. Last Tuesday the Boys and Girls both defeated McComb in their first meet of the season. The last Friday the Boys took first at the Liberty Benton Relays and the Girls took 3rd. This week the Boys and Girls will host Fostoria and Genoa in a Tri Meet on Tuesday starting at 4:30pm. Then on Saturday, April 9th they will compete in the very competitive Lexington Relays starting at 9am.

EHS Athletic Department Dead Week

A few years ago we started building into the summer schedule, a week in which none of our athletic teams schedule any athletic activities so that the student/athletes, their families and our coaches would take a week to relax and spend time with families and have opportunities to take vacations. This has proven to be very popular with everyone involved so we are continuing it again this summer. This summer the week off will be Monday, June 27th through Monday, July 4th. During this week there will be no scheduled activities by Eastwood High School athletic teams nor will the weight room be open either. Like all of our other activities you will see that week in Schedule Star.
