Pollution

Is littering worth killing innocent animals?
Everyday when you throw your trash on the ground and not in the trash can, it ends up in our oceans. Thousands of our oceans animals die every year due to pollution. We are treating the ocean like it is a trash can but it is our main source of food and life. Without it we wouldn't be able to survive. So before you think about throwing that can on the ground, think about all the innocent animals you could harm.

Marine Pollution
Products that are dumped into our oceans everyday
Some of the solids that are dumped into our ocean are plastic bags and foam. These things float so we can see them in large garbage patches. There are also many hazardous chemicals being dumped into our ocean. Some of these include, pesticides, herbicides, chemical fertilizers, detergents, oil, and sewage.
What is the biggest source of pollution in our oceans?
80% of marine pollution comes from land. Non-point pollution is a source of runoff, which carries liquid wastes into the ocean. Some water pollution starts out as air pollution, which settles into waterways and oceans. More than one-third of the shellfish growing waters are effected by coastal pollution. Correcting these harmful effects is not easy and is also very expensive.
How does this affect humans?
Pollution is usually a bigger deal to young children and the elderly. Depending on which type of pollution it is the symptoms are different. If it is Air Pollution it can cause asthma, cardiovascular problems, and respiratory problems. Water pollution also effects humans because we need clean drinking water to survive. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency monitors different contaminants that may effect drinking water. More than 15,000 people in the world die each day due to water pollution. If the water is contaminated it can be very dangerous because of the deadly bacteria it could grow.
How can we clean up our planet?
There are over 46,000 pieces of plastic floating in each square mile of the ocean off of the northeast coast of the United States. We can change this by not using plastic bags and bottles, start using a water bottle and cups when your at your house. We really need to take action because we depend on our ocean for human life and it covers 3/4 of the planet. We need a healthy ocean, its time we take action and make a change.
