Roosevelt Elementary School
June 6, 2022
We are approaching the end of our school year!
Dear Roosevelt families;
As the Principal of Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School, I would like to thank all of our families, students and staff for your cooperation, flexibility and dedication as we wrap up an exciting and engaging school year.
We encourage all of our students to continue their love for learning by reading for enjoyment this summer, thinking like a scientist and exploring nature, and continuing to always improve everyone’s math skills.
As the year comes to a close, we wish our fifth graders the best of luck in Middle School and thank them for the wonderful memories they have left us with. They will undoubtedly make us proud and we are confident they will be successful in Middle School, High School and beyond!
We look forward to our students returning on Thursday, September 8, 2022 for the first day of school.
Between now and then, many of our incoming students will be invited to Kindergarten Camp, some will work with teachers during summer tutoring opportunities, and some will attend IMAGINATION ADVENTURE at Benjamin Franklin. Many will attend FREE BCSD Sports camps and will participate in many fun and instructional programs around the Southern Tier.
Please refer to this newsletter for important end of year, summer and back to school news, dates and notes.
On behalf of our Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School Staff, I would like thank you for sharing your children with us. We would like to wish everyone a safe, enjoyable and relaxing summer break!

Nearly 100 Students to be rewarded for their OUTSTANDING Attendance!
Regular student attendance is crucial for student success!! We have nearly 100 students who will be recognized for attending school over 95% of the days this year!! That means they had 10 or less absences this entire school year. Each of those outstanding students will be presented with an "Attendance All Star Shirt" during the last full week of school!
Theodore Roosevelt UHS Health Clinic - the Teddy Bear Clinic
Our UHS Health Clinic will remain open during the summer months for sick visits, appointments, vaccinations (school shots) and social work sessions! The clinic is FREE for all Roosevelt families and functions just like a "WALK IN" clinic - you just need to call ahead for an appointment. Remember, many students require shots and physicals prior to the next school year. Please reach out to your pediatrician or our UHS Teddy Bear Clinic at (607)762-8280 for more information.
Have a safe and active summer on the North Side of Binghamton!
Summer Community Opportunities at the Lee Barta Center
Roosevelt Elementary School works cooperatively with the City Lee Barta Center to provide our families with free, enjoyable and safe summer opportunities! The "Center" is located at 108 Liberty Street in Binghamton and provided weekly events including the "Garden Club" every Monday from 3 - 4 pm. Please consider attending the Open House Event on June 14th and the SUmmer Kickoff Celebration on June 29th from 5 to 6:30 pm. The better these events are attended, the more possibilities that will follow in the future! Let's make our Lee Barta Center a strong resource for the North Side of Binghamton!
How to help your child get to grade level or above in reading and math!
Ways that you can help from home
Living through a pandemic has surely affected all of us! Most importantly, many of our students continue to make up for lost learning.
In order for all children to be performing at grade level - children will need support from their families and will need to keep on learning outside of school. Learning never stops and the summer can be an important time to "catch up" or "get ahead"!
A few strategies that you can do to support your children's growth and learning:
- Read, Read, Read! Being a strong reader impacts everything in school!
- Math facts! All students should be proficient with their math facts! Addition, subtraction and multiplication facts are essential in order to make progress. Computer programs, flash cards, and just verbally quizzing your children can help!
- Your teachers' PORTAL has many, many learning opportunities for your children to use at home. 30 minutes to an hour or more of home learning would be ideal for all children.
- Summer geography and science opportunities are all around us!
