Principal's Message
It’s hard to believe we have nearly hopped through the entire first nine week grading period. I would like to take this time to thank all families for helping me to acclimate to a new school and for your continued support in this effort. I also want to remind you all of the goals set forth for our school this year with regards to academic success and improved student attendance. Our desire is for each student to be present each day of the year unless sickness or family emergencies hinder them from doing so. We also want to encourage you to discuss with your child how things are going in their classes from their perspective. The last day of the quarter will be next Thursday, November 9th. Parent conferences are an important way to stay abreast of your child’s progress and I encourage each of you to take advantage of this set aside time to engage with your child’s teachers about their mastery of the content being taught.
Yours In Service,
P. Barnes
WatchDOGs
Our WatchDOG program kicked off on Monday night. This program is designed to bring fathers and father figures into classrooms to provide role models.
There are some new scheduling changes this year which should help with making sure all of our WatchDOGS are fully supported when they enter the classrooms. Calendar sign up information will be sent out soon. In the meantime, if you would like to schedule a time to volunteer or need more information - contact Darlene.Kerr@fcps.org. This is a great opportunity to work with all of our SRES students. You can sign up to be a WatchDOG even if you were not able to attend the information session.

Change of clothes reminder: All Students should have a seasonally appropriate change of clothes in their backpack or cubicle. If a student has an accident (bathroom, juice spill, puddle, etc.), it is important that he/she have a change of clothes available to ensure minimal interruption to the student's learning and to avoid a call home.
Hearing & Vision Screening Next Week
Hearing and Vision Screening will take place on Monday and Tuesday, Nov 6-7. If a child is new to Maryland Public Schools, Maryland state law mandates this screening. If glasses are required, please be sure they are brought to school on the screening day. A letter will be sent home to the parent/guardian of those students who do not pass for further follow up.
No longer will any other written requests be able to be screened at this time. For further questions, please contact the health room at (240) 236-1518.
