The Trojan Scoop
December and January
A message from Dr. Gonzalez
Greetings Catalina Community!
I cannot believe we are in the last month of the semester! In November the state issued state letter grades to schools. We appealed our assigned letter grade and we have been issued a “C” and we are proud that we maintained! More great news, thank you to the voters for supporting the bond that was passed that will ensure school restoration and upgrades.
Currently winter sports have started. Come out and support our teams!
Students are about to complete a semester with 7 credits towards graduation. Students have 3 weeks to makeup work, complete and turn in work. Encourage your student to complete ALL missing assignments and complete courses on Apex.
I am looking forward to a restful winter break. Winter break is from December 22-January 5. School resumes on January 8th , 2024.

Reminders and Updates
The Catalina Library Media Center
December 2023: News from the Library Media Center
November celebrated the Indigenous Heritage of our Native American Tribes. See our Collections area in Destiny to find a good read by or about Indigenous People! Ms. Cargill’s students enjoyed looking at the books and artifacts from the Hopi and Tohono O'odham on display, many of which were from the Educational Materials Center.
December is a great month for cozying up to a good winter read! Students can check out books from our display, or find them in one of our Winter Reads collection on Destiny.
How well do students know their teachers?! The library is having a Teacher Book Match contest for the month of December! Students have to guess which teacher’s book is their favorite.
We just received a couple boxes of brand new books in our library, thanks to a generous grant from the Catalina Foundation!
Our Library Media Website is the best place to get the most updated information about what’s going on in the Media Center as well as information on our books, research, events, and digital citizenship.

Grades
Parents and guardians, please remember to be checking your students' grades. Teachers will be in communication with you this month if your student is in danger of failing. Any classes students fail will need to be retaken before they can graduate.
Diploma Applications
- Seniors and Early Grads: Diploma applications are being handed out in the Government and Economics classes. Please fill out the diploma application and have your guardian sign it. Please return your diploma application to Mr. Naegel in the Registrar Office as soon as possible. If you do not have a Government or Economics class see Mr. Naegel for a diploma application
Trojans Supporting Families
- This year Mrs. Cole’s career investigation class will be sponsoring a family recovering for homelessness. They are taking donations for the families three children as well as wrapping paper, bows, gifts boxes, and gift bags. They are also hoping for donations of non-broken used or new household goods and Frys food stores gift cards. They are also looking for toys for the children ages 10, 8, and 2 and a half. For more details on what the children like or to donate items please stop by Mrs. Cole’s room M-120 by December 15th.
Health Care For Students
- Catalina Students - Free and low-cost health care services are now available through a telehealth program here on Campus. If you are in need of a health appointment to discuss minor health issues such as birth control methods, colds and coughs, pink eye, infections, or acne you may be able to be seen and treated by El Rio Health here at school. Students under the age of 18 must have parent or guardian permission, and students over 18 are eligible to provide their own permission. Information sheets and permission packets are available in the Attendance Office, Student Services, the Health Office, and in The Success Center with Mrs. Schull. Completed forms should be returned to Mrs. Schull or the Health Office. Please see Mrs. Schull in the Success Center if you have questions.
Quarter 2 Benchmarks
